New Delhi: Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal on Monday wrote to the Delhi Police seeking the release of 15 inmates of Nari Niketan.
"A list of 15 inmates of Nari Niketan has been prepared by the DCW. These women were to be released after investigating officer level clearance. A letter has been written to Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Madhur Verma over the delay in the release of the inmates," a DCW official said.
Maliwal will meet Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi on Tuesday to discuss issues of women's security and her findings at Nari Niketan.
In her letter to the DCP, Maliwal wrote: "I have enclosed a list of such women whose cases are pending in your district and need to be expedited to ensure their timely restoration. I would also request you to issue appropriate orders in this regard so that all such cases are dealt with swiftness."
Maliwal on August 21 stayed for a night at Nari Niketan at the Nirmal Chhaya Complex, Jail Road, "where she learned about vast mismanagement" and release of several women inmates "was being delayed due to official apathy", the DCW official said.
