Mumbai, Apri 12: The Mumbai police is keeping a close watch on the wedding reception to be held later this month for underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's son Moin in Dubai, reported Mumbai Mirror.
Several politicians and Bollywood stars are expected to attend the reception, the report said.
Dawood Ibrahim's empire which reportedly spans several countries and celebrities from all walks of life, will be well reflected in the grand wedding celebrations of his youngest son.
The elusive gangsgter, whose association with Bollywood stars and politicians has always been a matter of intense scrutiny, has not only invited several of them, he has also taken the celebration from Nairobi to Karachi and now to Dubai, bringing together dreaded names such as Tiger Memon, Shakeel Ansari and Anees Ibrahim all under one roof.
Sensing a rare opportunity to get close to the most-wanted man in the country, Mumbai police and security agencies have begun digging for the trail of invites, which have allegedly gone out from Karachi and into the homes of several famous homes in the city.
According to the police it was after a serious heart scare that Dawood's wife Mehzabeen insisted that their 28-year-old son Moin ties the knot before the end of the month.
“Dawood Ibrahim was playing cards at his Moin Palace house in Karachi, when he had a heart attack,” said a source.
The incident sent the D-family into panic mode and Moin's wedding was quickly organised so that the 56-year-old is able to preside over it.
Moin tied the knot with Benazir, daughter of a Canadian businessman on Tuesday last week.
According to the police, the bride's father has no criminal background but is a close friend of Dawood.
The wedding was held in Nairobi and a small reception was held in Karachi were Dawood is said to be residing currently.
Moin runs a business in Abu Dhabi and will settle there with his wife, say reports.Crime Branch and Anti-Terror Squad officers are now trying to infiltrate the grand ceremony to be held in Dubai, especially after it emerged that some politicians and Bollywood personalities may attend the reception.
The party is being organised by Dawood's close aide and 93 blasts' main accused Tiger Memon and Dawood's brother Anees Ibrahim, the Mumbai Mirror report says.
An officer from the Crime Branch said, “We have seen images and footage of Dawood's earlier parties where several known faces were in attendance. We know that many of them have been invited this time as well. We are checking on all those who were associated with Dawood at one time or another.”
Apart from the celebrity angle, the police have also been tempted with the prospect of catching all the members of the D-gang at the event. It may be recalled, Pakistani cricketer Javed Miandad's son Junaid married Dawood's daughter Mahrukh at Dubai's Grand Hyatt Hotel. A reception for the couple was organised Aug 4 in Karachi.
ATS and Mumbai Crime Branch have put several celebrities under the scanner, who were earlier associated with the gangster or had performed at any of his events. Attempts are also being made to get access to the wedding reception to be held in Dubai, say sources in the Crime Branch.
