Dawood gang members are using the old-fashioned ustra to attack their victims for some months now, reports Mid Day.

The gang's latest such strike occurred on Thursday when serial bomb-blast accused and alleged Dawood-gang member Mohammed Ehtesham Sheikh slashed businessman Ashraf Mansoor alias Ashraf Rado's hand with a razor outside Azamgiri Hotel on Maulana Shaukat Road.

Gang insiders say there is a reason why the foot soldiers are shying away from firearms. An attack with an ustra only attracts relatively milder action under the provisions of Section 307. However, an attack with a firearm like a handgun also attracts additional action under the Arms Act, which makes it extremely difficult for the attacker to obtain bail.

The JJ Marg police said Sheikh stabbed Rado after a heated argument. The stabbing is said to be fallout of a dispute over redevelopment in Dongri and adjoining areas.

D-Company henchmen had also used a razor to attack Chhota Rajan gangster Hamid Gulzar near Shivaji Park last year. Police informer Irfan Chindi was also murdered with an ustra by alleged D-Company goons at JJ Flyover in April, last year.

Incidentally, this was the second time Rado was attacked with a razor in this month. Ashraf's father is known as Mansoor Rado because of his love for branded Rado watches. "Mohammed Ehtesham Sheikh has been remanded to police custody till May 19," said Senior Inspector Khanderao Patil of JJ Marg Police Station.
