Damini gangrape: Delhi women's helpline 181 in CM's office is a sham

New Delhi, Jan 3: The women's toll-free helpline 181 installed in a hurry at Delhi Chief Minister's office in the wake of nationwide outrage over the gangrape and murder of a 23-year-old physiotherapist, nicknamed Damini,



When the first reporter rang up to complain about lewd comments being made by passersby, the reply was "If it is an identified person, then go to the police station...If he is unidentified, call 100 and inform. If they don't take your call, then call us." Amen.

Ten minutes later, another female reporter called 181 to complain about stalkers in south Delhi's Malaviya Nagar. The reply was: "Call 100 if they harass you, if you don't get through, pleace call us back."She was told to file a police complaint and then call back, if there was no response. Amen.
