Hyderabad: The cyclonic storm “Lehar” has fizzled out without causing any damage to the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh, with the state administration heaving a sigh of relief. .

The Indian Meteorological Department has withdrawn the cyclone warning for Andhra Pradesh  and it is now expected to cross the coast as a  depression. According to weather officials the cyclone would further dissipate into a depression today.

Deep depression is likely to cause isolated heavy rains in south coastal Andhra and Telangana

According to IMD as Lehar moves west-northwestwards towards Andhra Pradesh from the Bay of Bengal, it turned into deep depression and the wind speed has been reduced to 20 kmph. The reason the intensity has come down is because of cold temperature, wind shear and also cold wind from central India. The storm has lost much of its energy.

There was heavy rainfall at some places in Krishna, Guntur and West Godavari districts but no major damage has been reported from the coastal area of Krishna, Guntur, West and East Godavari districts, considered vulnerable.

Disaster Management Commissioner C. Parthasarathy said the National Disaster Response Force  teams, that were deployed in the vulnerable districts, were closely monitoring the situation and they would be withdrawn after confirming that there would not be any major impact.
