Vijayawada: Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh witnessed heavy rain on Friday after the cyclone Helen crossed the coast at 1.30 noon.
Machilipatnam and its surrounding villages where the cyclone crossed the coast received rain from morning. Kruthivennu village received highest rainfall at 66.8mm and Mahcilipatnam received 43.2mm rainfall.
District Collector M Raghunandana Rao said in a press note that 8,220 people from low laying and coastal villages were shifted to 42 camps.
Two persons died in tree-fall incidents in Seethanapalli and Tallapalem villages.
Standing crops like paddy, sugarcane, cotton, chilly are estimated to have been damaged severely.
