New Delhi, July 4: Delhi University's third cutoff for admission to four-year undergraduate courses remains above 90 percent with a mere drop of 0.25-1 percent against the second cutoff list announced earlier.

The Economics and Commerce courses in most Delhi University colleges saw a drop of just 0.75 percent in the third cutoff list announced late Wednesday. It is the highest in Ramjas College. But in other colleges, the drop is not more than 0.25 percent and the cutoff still averages 96-97 percent.

Shri Ram College for Commerce (SRCC) has closed admissions for undergraduate programmes in commerce and economics for general and other backward classes (OBC) categories.

"The seats have been filled for these two courses for both general and other backward classes (OBC), so there would be no cutoff list after this one," said SRCC principal P.C. Jain.

For a few courses, there has been no change in the third cutoff list in some colleges. Such programmes include History honours at Ramjas Collage and Bachelor of Science (Botany) at Hindu college.

This year, admissions to undergraduate programmes in some colleges closed earlier than expected, although the cutoff percentage was not pegged low.

"We were very cautious while declaring the cutoff. We did not want an overflow of students by declaring lower cutoffs," P. Hemalatha Reddy, principal of Sri Venkateswara College, told IANS.

Ram Lal Anand and Janki Devi Memorial College are some other colleges that have closed admissions for humanities courses for general candidates.

Hindu College has not come up with a third cutoff list for Mathematics, Philosophy, Sanskrit and Sociology courses.

For Hans Raj College's Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) programme in computer science, the cutoff remains fixed at 99 percent for students with non-science background since the announcement of the first cutoff.

The fourth cutoff list in DU is expected to be released July 8.

The university introduced the four-year undergraduate programme this academic session. Under the new programme, students will be required to study 11 foundation courses in the first two years with the main subjects under Discipline I,II and the applied courses.
