Muzaffarnagar: A case has been registered against 300 persons for allegedly damaging property and hindering police work during their protest at Budhana police station in the district against the custodial death of a man.
A case has been registered yesterday against 300 persons, eight identified as Naushad Qureshi, Zishan, Shabbu, Zahid, Abid, Abad, Shazad and Bilal, in this connection, SP (Rural) Alok Priydarshi said.
Police had arrested Nawab Qureshi (50), who was wanted in a case, but he died due to heart failure in police custody. The victim's family has alleged that Nawab was tortured by the police during custody and died during interrogation.
Hundreds of irate people on November 30 gheraoed and ransacked the Budhana police station and demanded strict action against the guilty cops.
Following which five police men, including SHO Dhanender Mishra, Sub-Inspector Rajesh Sharma and three police constables Hariram, Gyanender and Vipin Kumar were shifted to police lines from Budhana police station after they were booked on charges of murder of Nawab Qureshi.
