Kolkata: Expressing concern over the security of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee whose hotel room in Malda caught fire, Leader of Opposition Surjya Kanta Mishra yesterday called Trinamool Congress leader Partha Chatterjee to enquire about her safety and health.
He called up Chatterjee around 8 pm to enquire about the health of the Chief Minister and the incident that took place in Malda where she was campaigning during Lok Sabha polls, party sources said.
Mishra also wished her good health.
Banerjee had a narrow escape after a fire broke out in a hotel room she was staying in Malda while campaigning for the April 24 Lok Sabha poll.
Meanwhile, Left Front chairman Biman Bose also expressed concern about Banerjee's security and said the administration should take strong steps to ensure her foolproof security and safety.
The police said around 6.40 pm, the air-conditioner in the Banerjee's room caught fire while she was inside the toilet. She felt uneasy after inhaling the smoke and shouted the name of an aide for help.
Fire tenders arrived soon and extinguished the fire.
Banerjee is unhurt and safe.
