India on Friday achieved a milestone by administering more than 1 crore Covid vaccine doses. It is the highest ever vaccination achieved in a single day, the government said on Friday. In addition to this, the total vaccination coverage in the country has surpassed the 62 crore mark.
Taking to Twitter, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "record vaccination numbers today! Crossing 1 crore is a momentous feat. Kudos to those getting vaccinated and those making the vaccination drive a success."
Earlier in the day, it was reported that India administered 90 lakh vaccine doeses, however, the figure was updated to over 1 crore.
In a tweet sometime ago, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said, "Congratulations to the citizens as India today administers historic 90 lakh #COVID19 vaccines until now - and still counting! Crossed fingers."
Cumulatively, 23,72,15,353 people in the 18-44 category across all states and union territories have received their first dose and 2,45,60,807 have received their second dose since the start of phase-3 of the vaccination drive.
According to the provisional report till 7 pm, a total of 60,07,654 vaccine doses were given. As many as 46,88,114 beneficiaries were vaccinated for the first dose and 23,36,159 beneficiaries received the second dose of vaccine.
Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh have seen maximum vaccinations this month. In Uttar Pradesh, nearly 2.15 crore vaccine doses have been administered this month so far, followed by 1.3 crore vaccine doses in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra with nearly 1.1 crore doses.
Further, the Union Health Ministry on Friday informed that more than 4.05 crore Covid vaccine doses are still available with states and Union Territories for inoculation.
Over 58.86 crore vaccine doses have been provided to the states and Union Territories so far and more than 17.64 lakh doses are in the pipeline, the ministry said in a statement.
It said more than 4.05 crore balance and unutilized COVID-19 vaccine doses are still available with the states and Union Territories for inoculation.
