Thrissur (Ker), Dec 23: A Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum here has issued a bailable arrest warrant against Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy in a case relating to alleged non-repayment of money deposited by an investor in 1986 by a company which he headed then.
The warrant, issued by forum President Padmini Sadheesh yesterday, directed Delhi police to arrest and produce Swamy before the forum on or before April 2 next.
According to the complainant V N Narayan, he had deposited Rs 10,000 in the “Express Malayalam Private Limited” in 1986 for a period of three years. However, the amount was not returned.
At that time, Swamy was the Chairman of the company, which used to bring out the now defunct “Express” (Malayalam) daily from here.
The consumer forum had earlier directed Swamy to pay the amount to the petitioner at 9 per cent interest.
While passing orders on an execution petition filed by Narayan under section 27 of the Consumer Protection Act-1986, Padmini Sadheesh said Swamy had failed to honour the forum's earlier direction.
The forum had issued warrant against Swamy in 2008, but could not serve it as his correct residential address was not available.
Swamy's residential address was submitted by the petitioner yesterday.
