Congress minister Meena pitted against brother in Dausa

Jaipur: Union minister and Congress' Dausa candidate Namo Narain Meena may be pitted against his brother Harish, who is fighting on a BJP ticket, but he ruled out possibility of any rift in family due

When the BJP government led by Vasundhara Raje was formed in December last year, he was transferred to Jail department as DG. After a few days, he was again shifted to Home Guards and Civil defence as DG in January. He was last posted as Secretary (Security), Cabinet Secretariat in Delhi.  

In Barmer constituency situated at Western border, a triangular fight is brewing. Two of the main candidates being a retired colonel and a major while Former External Affairs Minister and Army officer Jaswant Singh, who was denied a BJP ticket from there, is fighting as an Independent.  BJP chose former Congress MLA Col Sonaram, who joined the party only last week.

Congress has repeated its sitting MP Harish Chaudhary, who had defeated Jaswant's son Manvendra in 2009 LS elections, from Barmer. Manvendra is a sitting BJP MLA from Sheo constituency in Barmer district.

Sonaram, a colonel and backed by Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, said, “Raje and other party leaders have showed faith in my calibre and I am getting their full support. I will prove my mettle. I have served my people here for long and will continue.”

He said that a rally addressed by Raje in Barmer on March 25 in his support attracted a huge crowd and a good response.  

“I am getting the support of the party people,” said Sonaram, a Jat leader who lost Assembly elections last year.
