Congress appoints veteran leaders as AICC observers for Maharashtra, Jharkhand post-election scenarios

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge appointed senior leaders as AICC observers for Maharashtra and Jharkhand to oversee post-election strategies and alliance dynamics.

Gearing up for the counting of votes in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has appointed senior leaders as All India Congress Committee (AICC) observers in the two states. The appointments were held a day before the counting of votes for parliamentary elections in these states.

Observers for Maharashtra, Jharkhand

The Congress has appointed former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot, former Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel, and senior leader G. Parameshwar as observers for Maharashtra. For Jharkhand, Tariq Anwar, Mallu Bhatti Wickramark, and Krishna Allavuru will oversee the post-poll developments. The appointments were announced in a statement issued by Congress general secretary KC Venugopal.

Counting to begin amid tight security

The vote counting for both states will begin at 8 am on Saturday, with postal ballots being counted first. Counting will be conducted under tight security at all centers in Maharashtra and Jharkhand.

Maharashtra election overview

The 288-member Maharashtra Assembly was a direct contest between the BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP Mahayuthi alliance and the Congress-Shiv Sena (Uddhav) and NCP-Mahavikas Aghadi alliance. The election was held in a single phase on November 20, with a voter turnout of 65.02%.

Jharkhand election overview

In Jharkhand, the contest was between the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-Congress alliance and the BJP-led NDA. Voting took place in two phases, the first phase on November 13 (66.65% vote turnout) and the second phase on November 20 (68.45% electoral vote).
