Kolkata: A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawan on Sunday gunned down his senior officer here following a heated argument and was remanded to 14 days police custody.
The incident happened inside the CISF camp in the Garden Reach area of the city under the Kolkata Port Trust.
"We have arrested CISF jawan Neelkantha Behera after he shot dead Inspector Gurupada Sheet. A court later remanded him to 14 days police custody," deputy commissioner of police (Port) V. Nesakumar said.
According to police, the trooper fired three rounds from his rifle. He later surrendered and was arrested.
Behera - a resident of Bhadrak, Orissa - had come to the CISF camp along with 85 other jawans Saturday. They were to be deployed in Chhattisgarh Sunday for the Nov 11 and Nov 19 assembly elections.
During their routine attendance checking, Sheet pulled up Behera as he was attending to a phone call. This led to a heated argument between the two.
Behera, who had altercations with Sheet earlier also, killed the latter when he was asleep.
