Jaipur, June 26: The daughter of elderly Pakistani doctor Khalil Chisty, undergoing life sentence in the Ajmer Central Jail, has requested Rajasthan Governor Shivraj Patil to release him on humanitarian ground at the earliest.
Amna Chisty, residing in Canada, forwarded her request via a social activist in Jaipur recently in which she requested the Governor to consider her father's age, health, and educational background, and recommend his release at the earliest.
Sources in Raj Bhawan have confirmed that Amna's request has been received.
Chisty (78) was convicted in a murder case by a court after 18-year-long trial in January 2011.
Chisty's relatives and human rights activists had filed a mercy petition on his behalf before the Rajasthan Home Department in April this year with a request that the matter be dealt expeditiously as his health was failing. PTI
