Chhattisgarh: Congress appoints TS Singh Deo as Deputy Chief Minister

The Congress on Wednesday appointed the state health minister TS Singh Deo as deputy chief minister to address the raging factional wars in the state unit ahead of elections for the Chhattisgarh Assembly later this year.

"INC President Mallikarjun Kharge has approved the proposal for appointment of TS Singh Deo as the Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh. He is a loyal Congress leader and an able administrator. The state will benefit greatly from his services as Deputy CM," said Congress general secretary KC Venugopal.

Singh Deo had been upset about being denied rotational CM post with incumbent Bhupesh Baghel, which party sources said was a comprehension reached with VIP when Congress won the state polls in 2018.

According to sources, Congress may also move to settle differences in Rajasthan between CM Ashok Gehlot and his former deputy Sachin Pilot.

Congress will guard its legislatures in both Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan in the not so distant future.

As per a party statement issued, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has endorsed the proposition for the arrangement of Singh Deo as the vice president serve in Chhattisgarh.

Since the party came to power in the state in 2018, Singh Deo and Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel have been at loggerheads.

Today, Baghel and Singh Deo traveled to New Delhi to meet with the party's top leadership to talk about the strategy and how prepared the party is for polls. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former party head Rahul Gandhi, the party's in-control for the state Kumari Selja and general secretary, association, K C Venugopal were among the leaders who went to the meeting at the party central command.
