Chandrababu Naidu forcibly taken to hospital refuses IV drip

New Delhi: On a day of high drama at the Andhra Pradesh Bhavan here, Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu was forcibly evicted by Delhi Police and taken in an ambulance to Ram Manohar Lohi Hospital, where he refused to take intravenous drip on the fifth day of his hunger strike. Several hundred slogan-shouting TDP workers tried to stop police from evicting their leader, but ultimately Naidu was taken inside the ambulance Heckling and jostling broke loose on the premises and police had to use mild force to make their way towards the podium where Naidu was sitting. Women cadres of the party were in the lead in trying to block the way of the police.The Naidu supporters vandalised the place, shouting slogans against Congress President Sonia Gandhi, burning her effigies and hurling slippers at the banners of Gandhi and Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy.They also laid siege of the ambulance which the police had brought to ferry Naidu to hospital.A portion of the pandal set up on the premises for the event was also pulled down by the irate TDP supporters.After the high drama and chaos that lasted nearly an hour, 63-year-old Naidu was taken away by police in the ambulance as a result of their persuasion.The TDP workers tried to stop the ambulance from leaving the premises but police dodged them by misleading them.Accompanied by some relatives and TDP MPs, he was taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.Naidu was on hunger strike in the premises since Monday to protest against bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and demanding "justice" for all. Andhra Pradesh government had said his protest in the premises was "unauthorised" and requested the police to evict him.TDP leaders claimed that Naidu had lost four kgs during the five-day fast.In Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, doctors said he was suffering from "mild dehydration" but his health parameters are within "normal range".He refused to take intravenous drip and wants to continue his hunger strike as he wants to continue the fast, doctors said.A team of doctors comprising a cardiologist, two physicians and four resident doctors are monitoring the condition of Naidu."Ketone 3+ indicates that the body is drawing strength from the last of the calories reserved. We tried giving him intravenous DNS and vitamins but he refused saying that he wants to continue the fast," said Dr H K Kar, Medical Superitendent of RML hospital.His blood pressure was 150/70, pulse 100 which is on the higher side, sugar 85, ketone 3+ and he is mildly dehydrated, Kar said.
