Chandigarh blast: Two blasts occurred near two nightclubs in Sector 26 in the upscale Sector 26 of Chandigarh on Tuesday morning. The explosions were believed to have been caused by crude bombs. The explosion took place around 4 am on Tuesday morning when two unidentified individuals on a motorcycle threw a low-intensity bomb at the nightclubs.
Bar belongs to Bollywood singer Badshah
One of the two bars, Seville belongs to Bollywood singer Badshah. However, DE'Orra - Alehouse & Kitchen restaurant does not belong to Badshah as per Chandigarh Police and Seville is next to it.
According to sources from Chandigarh police, the incident cannot be classified as a bomb, as the substance used was potash with crackers, which was in a very large quantity. It said that an attempt was made to explode country-made bombs outside Chandigarh's night clubs by using potash used in firecrackers. Some thin jute ropes were also recovered from the spot.
Case of extortion
The night clubs were closed at the time of the blasts, so it is believed that these blasts were carried out only to spread terror.
The sources further said that it is a case of extortion. The initial investigations suspect that the angle behind these blasts is extortion by spreading terror among the owners of nightclubs.
No casualties reported
Fortunately, no casualties have been reported. However, the blast caused damage to several window panes. The forensic teams of Chandigarh Police are currently investigating the matter. More information about this incident is awaited.
DSP Dilbag Singh Dhaliwal said, "We got information in the control room that there was some personal problem here. Our Investigating Officer saw glass was broken here. At the present moment, we cannot say anything. The forensic team has arrived. We have just lodged the FIR. We have just started an investigation."
