Bhubaneswar: Lauding steps taken by Odisha government to deal with cyclone Phailin and the subsequent floods, the Inter Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) yesterday said it would do the best it can to help the state.
“We will do the best we can... We will submit the report very soon,” IMCT leader Rashmi Goel, joint secretary (HR) in the ministry of home affairs, told reporters while winding up the team's four-day tour to the state's disaster-hit areas.
Goel said the team had received supplementary memorandum from the state government seeking Rs 1590 crore Central assistance towards damage caused by the second phase flood that hit the state's 13 districts from October 21 to 26.
“The arrangement made by the state government was good.
We met the affected people in villages and none of them told us that they have not received the relief.”
Lauding the state government's evacuation drive ahead of the cyclone's landfall near Gopalpur on October 12, Goel said many lives had been saved due to it.
