New Delhi: The CBI on Wednesday filed a chargesheet against National Commission for Scheduled Castes Chairman Buta Singh's son and daughter-in-law in connection with the alleged possession of illegal weapons, a CBI spokesman said here.

The chargesheet was filed in the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja against Sarabjot Singh and his wife Devyani Singh under Section 120-B IPC (criminal conspiracy) and Section 25 of Arms Act, the spokesman said.

The court has fixed September 22 for consideration of the chargesheet.

The CBI had earlier registered a case under various sections of Prevention of Corruption Act against Sarabjot and others.

Searches at the residential premises of the accused at Jungpura Extension here were conducted by CBI last year during which three revolvers -- one .32 bore revolver of M/s Webley & Scott (made in England), one .38 bore revolver of M/s Smith & Wesson (made in USA), one .32 bore revolver of M/s Arminus (made in Germany) and 38 rounds of ammunition -- were seized.

An FIR was lodged in Hazarat Nizamuddin police station under the Arms Act. On the request of Delhi Government, the CBI had taken up investigation on January 14 and filed the chargesheet, the spokesman said.

Buta Singh's son has also been chargesheeted along with three others in a corruption case. The 31-page chargesheet was filed against Sarabjot alias Sweety, Anup Begi, Madan Solanki and Dhoop Singh Chauhan in a designated CBI court in Mumbai on January 13.

While Sarabjot and Begi have been booked for corruption and hatching the criminal conspiracy, the two others face charges under money laundering act for being allegedly involved in a hawala racket, the CBI said.

Sarabjot was arrested on July 31 last year for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs one crore from Nashik-based contractor Ramrao Patil for closing a case pending against him before the Scheduled Castes panel headed by his father. PTI
