Chennai: President of All India Overseas Bank Employees Union (AIOBEU) L. Balasubramanian, a retired special cadre assistant of the Indian Overseas Bank, was arrested on Thursday by Central Bureau of Investigation sleuths for allegedly masterminding a recruitment scam in the bank in Tamil Nadu four years ago.
The investigating agency registered a group of criminal cases pertaining to the recruitment scam in the engagement of 950 temporary sweepers and messengers that took place in IOB, Tamil Nadu.
Searches were conducted in 18 places throughout the State in this regard.
The CBI stated that Balasubramanian was the kingpin behind the scam. A statement from the agency said investigations revealed that Balasubramanian introduced age and educational qualifications criteria to get a better platform for manipulation and negotiation with candidates.
The investigating agency also said all these designs were against the letter and spirit of the board approval of IOB. Most of the candidates so recruited were found ineligible.
