A burqa-clad woman stabbed a cab driver in Gurugram's Civil Lines area today, leading to chaos in the vicinity and deployment of a heavy police contingent. The driver suffered minor injuries in the incident.
According to the driver who has been identified as Raghuraj (35), the lady signalled him to stop and attacked him suddenly using a knife. She then attempted to flee. However, Raghuraj tried to chase her. She was overpowered by passersby and handed over to the police.
The incident took place just a few metres away from the traffic police booth in the Civil Lines area. Cops took note of the incident and arrested her immediately. According to the police, the lady is a foreign national. Her identity is being established.
Police said that the victim is a native of Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical aid.
"The woman signalled me to stop the cab and when I stopped the vehicle, she attacked me with a sharp-edged knife and licked my face. She tried to flee but was nabbed," the victim said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman (in her 30s) was mentally ill. Station House Officer (SHO) of Civil Lines police station said that an investigation is on and the reason behind the incident will be known after recording the accused's statement.
