Mumbai: A sessions court yesterday rejected the anticipatory bail application of owner of a car showroom and key accused in partial collapse of a residential building in suburban Mahim in which ten persons were killed.

A portion of Altaf Manzil had caved in on June 10 allegedly due to illegal alterations carried out in the four-storeyed building.

According to the FIR, Sandeep Bafna had taken the basement of the building on lease and made some unauthorised changes that lead to weakening of the structure and eventually caused its collapse.

The FIR also named Irfan Furniturewala, Sharif Furniturewala and Mohammed Furniturewala, three sons of ex-owner of the building, besides Iqbal Ibrahim, the owner of a shop and basement on the north side, Bafna and officials of the G/North Ward and officials attached to the BMC head quarters.

Bafna had last week filed the application and blamed Ibrahim for the damage.
