Hours after the Haryana government posted senior IAS officer Sudhir Rajpal as the new home secretary, it issued a modified transfer order late on Sunday evening, re-allocating the post to TVSN Prasad. Prasad will continue to hold the charge as additional chief secretary (home) as before, according to the modified order. The government, however, did not mention any reason for the modification.  Earlier in the day, the government issued transfer orders for nine Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers, naming Rajpal as the new home secretary. According to the earlier order, Rajpal had replaced Prasad, who was also overseeing the jails, criminal investigation and administration of justice departments.

Police on Sunday arrested a man for allegedly threatening to kill self-styled godman Dhirendra Krishna Shastri of Bagheshwar Dham, an official said. Superintendent of police (rural) Raj Kumar Agarwal said, "We have arrested one Anas Ansari for issuing a death threat to Dhirendra Shastri in a post on the social media platform Instagram."

A 16-year-old boy died after a car hit a pole in northwest Delhi's Begumpur area, police said on Sunday. However, it is not yet clear if the car was hit by another vehicle, they said. On Saturday, information was received about an accident near Helipad road. After reaching the spot, police personnel found that the injured had been taken to Saroj Hospital, Rohini, officials said.

A 20-year-old man was arrested in Goa for allegedly touching a minor girl inappropriately and fleeing, a police official said on Sunday. Majid Khan was held under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Goa Children's Act for outraging the modesty of the girl in Mapusa, Deputy Superintendent of Police Jivba Dalvi said.

Seventeen police personnel and three women detainees were injured when a police bus carrying them rammed into an Army vehicle in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district on Sunday, police said. The police bus was on its way to Bhaderwah sub-jail in Doda district from Srinagar’s central jail, a police official said.

Three people, including two women, died after their car collided with a truck in Sirohi district of Rajasthan on Sunday, police said. The incident took place under the Abu Road Sadar police station area when the car was on its way to Shivganj, they said.

A 23-year-old man was beaten to death by two people over a petty issue in a village here, police said on Sunday. According to police, victim Umesh had gone to his farm in Sonai Cha village to guard his maize crop on Saturday night. Late into the night, he started beating a small tin drum to scare away cattle and wild animals from damaging his crop. This enraged Jagjeevan and his son Nirmal who thrashed Umesh with wooden sticks, killing him on the spot, they said.

A person belonging to Scheduled Caste community, was allegedly hung upside down and beaten up in a shed in Mancherial District of Telangana by a man and his family members on suspicion of stealing a goat and an iron pipe, police said on Sunday.

Chandrayaan-3 and Aditya-L1 are the outcomes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's progressive policy decisions, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said on Sunday, asserting that ISRO now has the capacity to compete with NASA and Roscosmos in space expeditions. The lander module of Chandrayaan-3 -- the third mission in the Chandrayaan programme developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) -- touched down on the lunar surface on August 23, making India only the fourth country to accomplish the feat. It is also the first to reach the uncharted south pole of Earth's only natural satellite.

Hitting out at the opposition INDIA bloc, senior BJP leader and Union minister Nityanand Rai on Sunday said the alliance does not have any 'neta' (leader) or 'niti' (policy). The Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, who arrived here on a two-day visit to Odisha, said the opposition alliance's recent Mumbai meeting was a gathering of parties and leaders, who are "arrogant, deep in corruption and believe in dynastic politics".

The Delhi Commission for Women has issued a notice to the city police over the alleged sexual assault of a minor boy at a private shelter home here, officials said on Sunday. The commission said it received a call on Saturday regarding the incident on its 181 women helpline number.

A man was crushed under a bus at the Old Bus Stand here on Sunday morning, police said. The accident took place in the heart of Shimla city when three buses of Himachal Roadways Transport Corporation (HRTC) were moving out of the bus stand and two private buses were being parked near the rain shelter, they added.

The Maharashtra government on Sunday sent Jalna district superintendent of police Tushar Doshi on compulsory leave, two days after protesters demanding Maratha quota were baton-charged, triggering violence, sources said. Police have arrested 40 persons in connection with the violence that erupted in Jalna district on Friday, sources said.

The Odisha government on Sunday said the death toll in lightning strikes that occurred across the state a day before rose to 12. The government also announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh for the next of kin of each deceased.
Lightning strikes claimed the lives of four people in Khurda district, two in Bolangir and one each in Angul, Boudh, Gajapati, Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal and Puri, the office of the special relief commissioner (SRC) said. Fourteen people were also injured in the lightning strikes in 11 districts of Odisha on Saturday.

A 38-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed by her husband in northwest Delhi's Mangolpuri area, police said on Sunday. On Thursday, information was received at Mangolpuri police station that Mangolpuri resident Seema Jha was admitted to Sanjay Gandhi hospital after getting injured in a quarrel with her husband, Deputy Commissioner of Police (outer) Harendra Singh said.

A 24-year-old man has been arrested here for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl after sedating her, police said on Sunday. The accused, Israr, was an acquaintance of the minor whom he allegedly raped on Friday and both resided in the same village here, ASP Pavitra Mohan Tripathi said.

Nearly a month after the body parts of a minor who was gang-raped were found inside a coal furnace in Rajasthan's Bhilwara, police filed a charge sheet in the court saying the girl was alive when she was thrown into the furnace. The 400-page charge sheet presented before the court on Saturday names nine of the 11 accused. A separate charge sheet would be filed against two minors allegedly involved in the crime.

Apart from sending proposals to the Centre about setting up fast-track courts to provide speedy justice, the Rajasthan government will make efforts to set up these courts at the state level in consultation with the high court, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has said. He described protests with bodies as "inappropriate" and said such agitations not only create legal hurdles in the investigation but are also insensitive towards the victims.

A local court has acquitted an Afghan national in a fake passport case on the grounds of insufficient evidence and directed police to take action against the investigating officer for not carrying out a proper investigation. According to the prosecution, on February 2, 2020, on information received during patrolling in Phulpur area, the police arrested Kiramat Ullah Ahmadzai - who hailed from Afghanistan.

A major tragedy was averted with timely detection of a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Sunday, officials said. The IED, planted inside a tiffin box, was found lying on the roadside near a culvert by the army’s road opening party at Sangpur village along the Jammu-Poonch National Highway around 4.45 am, they said.
