    9 senior IAS officers transferred in Haryana; TVSN Prasad to continue as home secretary

    Hours after the Haryana government posted senior IAS officer Sudhir Rajpal as the new home secretary, it issued a modified transfer order late on Sunday evening, re-allocating the post to TVSN Prasad. Prasad will continue to hold the charge as additional chief secretary (home) as before, according to the modified order. The government, however, did not mention any reason for the modification.  Earlier in the day, the government issued transfer orders for nine Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers, naming Rajpal as the new home secretary. According to the earlier order, Rajpal had replaced Prasad, who was also overseeing the jails, criminal investigation and administration of justice departments.

    Police on Sunday arrested a man for allegedly threatening to kill self-styled godman Dhirendra Krishna Shastri of Bagheshwar Dham, an official said. Superintendent of police (rural) Raj Kumar Agarwal said, "We have arrested one Anas Ansari for issuing a death threat to Dhirendra Shastri in a post on the social media platform Instagram."

    Teenager killed in road accident in Delhi

    A 16-year-old boy died after a car hit a pole in northwest Delhi's Begumpur area, police said on Sunday. However, it is not yet clear if the car was hit by another vehicle, they said. On Saturday, information was received about an accident near Helipad road. After reaching the spot, police personnel found that the injured had been taken to Saroj Hospital, Rohini, officials said.

    Man thrashed to death over petty issue in UP's Gorakhpur

    A 23-year-old man was beaten to death by two people over a petty issue in a village here, police said on Sunday. According to police, victim Umesh had gone to his farm in Sonai Cha village to guard his maize crop on Saturday night. Late into the night, he started beating a small tin drum to scare away cattle and wild animals from damaging his crop. This enraged Jagjeevan and his son Nirmal who thrashed Umesh with wooden sticks, killing him on the spot, they said.

    The Odisha government on Sunday said the death toll in lightning strikes that occurred across the state a day before rose to 12. The government also announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh for the next of kin of each deceased.
    Lightning strikes claimed the lives of four people in Khurda district, two in Bolangir and one each in Angul, Boudh, Gajapati, Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal and Puri, the office of the special relief commissioner (SRC) said. Fourteen people were also injured in the lightning strikes in 11 districts of Odisha on Saturday.
