The 23-year-old student who accused BJP leader Swami Chinmayanand of rape was arrested on Wednesday on charges of extortion and sent to 14 days judicial custody, police said.

She was arrested around 9.15 am from her home by the Special Investigation Team of the Uttar Pradesh Police.

She was then taken for a medical examination. After that she was produced before the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Vineet Kumar, which sent her to 14 days judicial custody, officials said.

In what can be termed as brutality at its worst, the body of a 21-year-old youth was tied to a motorcycle by his neck and dragged for over 15 kilometres by unidentified persons in Meerut on Tuesday. The body bore a bullet wound and his left foot went missing for some time due to prolonged dragging incident. The police said that they were not sure if the youth, Mukul Kumar, was shot dead before being tied and dragged.

The Delhi High Court has directed former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram to file an affidavit stating the source of certain documents regarding the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) approval to INX Media.

The Bench, headed by Justice Suresh Kumar Kait, asked Chidambaram's counsels Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Kapil Sibal to state through an affidavit the source of documents relating to the approval, which were being referred to by his lawyers during the hearing of his bail plea.
