    Govt set to introduce Repairability Index for mobile, electronics products

    The Department of Consumer Affairs has constituted a committee of experts to recommend a robust framework for a Repairability Index aimed at empowering consumers and promoting sustainable practices within the tech industry.

    The committee, chaired by Department of Consumer Affairs (DoCA) Additional Secretary Bharat Khera, will develop the Repairability Index to provide consumers with greater transparency on repair information for their products and foster a more sustainable technology industry.

    SIT probe over laddu issue insufficient, needs SC monitored investigation: YSRCP leader Rambabu

    Senior YSRCP leader and former irrigation minister Ambati Rambabu on Tuesday said an SIT probe ordered by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu into the alleged Tirupati laddu adulteration case is insufficient and called for a Supreme Court monitored investigation.

    On Sunday, Naidu ordered an SIT probe to be headed by an inspector general (IG) rank or a higher cadre officer into the alleged mixing of animal fats for making Tirupati laddus during the erstwhile YSRCP government.

    UP: Former minister Gayatri Prajapati gets bail from HC in ED case, to remain in jail

    The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday granted bail to former Uttar Pradesh minister Gayatri Prajapati in a money laundering case registered by the Enforcement Directorate in January 2021. Justice Subhash Vidyarthi of the Lucknow bench granted relief to Prajapati but he will have to remain in jail due to other cases.

    The high court observed that Prajapati, who has been in jail in this case since February 8, 2021, has already spent a period behind bars which is more than half of the sentence for the offence under the PML Act for which he has been charged, and hence he was entitled to bail.

    Mizoram: Policeman suspended for assaulting doctors

    A policeman was suspended in Mizoram for allegedly assaulting three people on a street, officials said on Tuesday. The policeman, identified as Sailianpuia Sailo who was posted at the Sairang police station near Aizawl, along with five other youths assaulted two doctors and their friend on September 21 night when the three were returning home after work, they said.

    UP: 14-year-old girl gang-raped by two youths in Lucknow

    A class 5 student was allegedly gang-raped by two youths while she returning home from school here, police said on Tuesday. The accused were identified as Danish and Amin, police said. According to police, the incident occurred in the Sarojini Nagar area when the 14-year-old girl was returning home from school.

    450 families evicted from Assam reserve forest, move to reduce man-elephant conflict: Official

    Around 2,000 "illegal settlers" belonging to 450 families were evicted on Tuesday from 55-60 hectares of forest land in Goalpara district of Assam, an official said.

    Several government installations were also removed from that area during the eviction drive which will help prevent man-elephant conflict, he said. 

    The exercise was carried out at Bandarmatha Reserve Forest, spread across 118 hectares, in Lakhipur Range in the presence of a heavy posse of security personnel and civil and forest officials.

    NIA raids 11 places in Tamil Nadu to probe promotion of anti-India ideology

    The NIA conducted searches at multiple locations across Tamil Nadu on Tuesday as part of its probe into an "anti-election campaign" promoted by the Hizb-ut-Tahrir, a pan-Islamist organisation seeking to establish Islamic rule in the country, an official statement said.

    It said officials of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) raided the houses of 11 suspects in Chennai, Tambaram and Kanyakumari districts, and seized incriminating materials, including digital devices, unaccounted cash and literature belonging to the Hizb-ut-Tahrir.

    Food adulteration: UP restaurants asked to install CCTVs, eateries to display names of proprietors

    Taking cognisance of incidents of spitting and mixing of urine in eatables in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday directed that the name and address of operators, proprietors and managers should be mandatorily displayed at all food centres.

    He also directed that chefs and waiters should wear masks and gloves besides making installation of CCTVs in hotels and restaurants mandatory.

    Addressing a high-level meeting here, Adityanath said the presence of human waste in food items was disgusting and ordered strict action against those who adulterate food items with human waste or dirty things, an official statement said.
