A local court here on Sunday sent former principal of RG Kar hospital Sandip Ghosh and Tala police station officer-in-charge Abhijit Mondal to CBI custody till September 17, an officer said. Both Ghosh and Mondal were produced before a court by the central agency in connection with the rape-murder of a doctor at the state-run hospital.

In a  tragic incident a 25-year-old student of IP University allegedly died by suicide after jumping from the seventh floor of his hostel. The student, identified as Gautam Kumar from Vaishali in Bihar, was a first-year MBA student at the university's main campus in Sector-16.

A man was killed and his family members were injured when some villagers attacked them and set their house on fire in Chhattisgarh's Kabirdham district on Sunday, police said. The 24-year-old man who died recently at a private hospital in Malappuram was infected with the Nipah virus, Kerala Health Minister Veena George said on Sunday. George said the suspicion of Nipah infection arose after a death investigation conducted by the Regional Medical Officer. "The available samples were immediately sent for testing and it turned out to be positive," the minister said in a video message.

Indian driver Kush Maini on Sunday survived a horrifying crash after he stalled at the start of feature race in Formula 2, a support race to Formula 1. The scary incident occurred on the opening lap of the Formula 2 race which preceded the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The 23-year-old Indian had nowhere to go at the race start as the engine of his car stopped working suddenly. To combat rising crime rates and ensure the safety of passengers travelling in the Delhi Metro, the city police has implemented a new security strategy under which they will deploy officers in plain clothes at vulnerable metro stations during peak hours. The step was taken after the city police conducted a 'temporal and spatial analysis' to review its security plan as the national capital has witnessed a surge in ridership in recent months, leading to a corresponding increase in crime reports, official sources from police said. The 'temporal and spatial', are terms that refer to time and space. The data was collected from 190 metro stations to determine the time at which crime incidents remained high at stations.

 A fire broke out in factory on Lawrence Road Industrial area in northwest Delhi on Sunday afternoon, officials of the Delhi Fire Services said. According to the officials, no casualty or injury was reported as the fire was brought under control.

BJP MLA Munirathna was taken into custody by Bengaluru police on Saturday with the help of Kolar police in Mulbagal Taluk of Kolar when he travelling to Andhra Pradesh: B Nikhil, Kolar SP. Two FIRs were registered at the Vyalikaval police station against BJP MLA and former minister Munirathna. The cases stem from complaints lodged by contractor Chelvaraju, who has accused Munirathna of harassment and threats. The first case involves issuing a death threat, with four individuals named in the FIR including Munirathna, VG Kumar, Abhishek, Vasanth Kumar. The FIRs include charges under sections 37, 506, 505, 385, 420, and 323.
