25 travel agents booked for illegally advertising employment opportunities: Punjab Police
Twenty-five travel agents in Punjab have been booked for illegally advertising employment opportunities on social media, said police on Wednesday. The action came after the Protector of Emigrants under the Ministry of External Affairs red-flagged the advertising on social media for jobs in foreign countries by such unscrupulous travel agencies.

Siddaramaiah writes to CMs of 8 states on unfair devolution of taxes by Centre
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday said he has written to the Chief Ministers of eight states regarding the "unfair" devolution of taxes by the Union government, and has invited them to a conclave in Bengaluru to collectively deliberate on the issues of "fiscal federalism".
He said he has written to the Chief Ministers of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Haryana, and Punjab.

Patient assaults junior woman doctor at govt hospital in Hyderabad
A woman junior doctor was allegedly assaulted by a patient at the state-run Gandhi Hospital here on Wednesday. The Gandhi Junior Doctors Association (JUDA) said that a patient in intoxicated condition "assaulted” the female intern when she was performing her duties at the Casualty department of the hospital at around 3.30 pm. The incident caused concern among junior doctors, it said in a release.

Delhi govt mulls proposal to transition Gramin Seva autos to electric vehicles
The Delhi government is planning to inject a new lease of life into the Gramin Seva autos by issuing guidelines to ensure their transition to electric vehicles, officials said.
Launched in 2010, the Gramin Seva is a para-transit scheme wherein high capacity three-wheelers with a seating capacity of six passengers were given permits to ply in the rural areas, unauthorised, resettlement colonies and the JJ clusters of Delhi.

Puri Shankaracharya, others oppose to beach shack plan
Shankaracharya of Govardhan Peeth, Swami Nischalananda Saraswati, on Wednesday opposed the Odisha government’s proposal for setting up beach shacks along Puri-Konark sea shore.
The seer’s opposition to the proposal coincided with the demonstration of around 40 socio-cultural organisations near Shree Jagannath Temple here.While opposing the BJP government’s proposal in the new excise policy, the agitators also demanded a total liquor ban in the pilgrim town and the sea beach.
"Jagannath Dham is the place for spiritual pursuit and soul-searching and not for amusement. Puri beach should be a place devoted to bhajan, kirtan and religious discourses. It should not serve as a destination for pleasure-seeking,” the Shankaracharya told reporters while responding to the state government’s proposal.

Two orchestra dancers gang-raped in UP, 8 arrested
Police have arrested eight men in connection with abduction and gang-rape of two orchestra dancers at gunpoint in Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar district. The accused perpetrators forced the victims into their vehicles and took them to a house where the crime was committed, police said. The victims were abducted at gunpoint from a house under the Ramkola police station jurisdiction on Monday night, according to police.
The perpetrators arrived in two SUVs and, amid continuous firing, took the girls to the house of one of the accused Ajit Singh in the Kaptanganj area, where the alleged gang-rape was committed, said Kushinagar Superintendent of Police Santosh Kumar Mishra.

ED attaches assets worth Rs 29.75 crore of Nirav Modi
The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday said it has attached fresh assets worth Rs 29.75 crore of fugitive diamond trader Nirav Modi under the anti-money laundering law. A provisional order has been issued under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to attach these assets that are in the form of bank deposits, land, and buildings, it said in a statement.
The agency, which has been probing Modi in the alleged USD 2 billion fraud against the Punjab National Bank for over five years now, has attached assets worth Rs 2,596 crore in India and abroad in the past. Modi, 53, is presently lodged in a UK jail and has lost his extradition plea to India in connection with this alleged bank loan fraud case, which is also being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Nagaland govt decides to enforce ILP in Dimapur
The Nagaland government on Wednesday decided to enforce Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Dimapur, Chumoukedima, and Niuland districts of the state. The decision was taken at the state cabinet meeting held here during the day under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, state government spokesperson and minister Temjen Imna Along told newsmen here.
ILP was not applicable to Dimapur district which was bifurcated into three districts – Dimapur, Chumoukedima and Niuland in 2021.
