    Re-polling to be held in five booths in Haryana

    Re-polling will be held in five polling booths of as many assembly constituencies in Haryana on Wednesday as "some shortcomings" have been noticed, an official said.

    Re-polling will be conducted tomorrow, from 7 am to 6 pm, in five Assembly Constituencies of Haryana; Uchana Kalan (in Jind), Berry (in Jhajjar), Narnaul (in Narnaul), Kosli (in Rewari), Prithla (in Faridabad).

    Ashok Malik appointed as Policy Advisor in MEA

    Ashok Malik, a veteran journalist and former Press Secretary to the President of India, was on Tuesday appointed as Policy Advisor in the External Affairs Ministry in the rank of Additional Secretary.

    The 50-year-old Distinguished Fellow of the prominent think tank Observer Research Foundation (ORF) will have a two-year tenure from the date he assumes charge "or until further orders, whichever is earlier", according to the decision taken by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).

    Cyber crime up by 77% in 2017, 56% cases motivated by fraud: NCRB data

    As many as 21,796 cases of cyber crime were reported across the country in 2017, showing a 77 per cent hike from 2016, according to the latest data by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).

    In 56 per cent of the cases, fraud was the major motive behind the offence, while 6.7 per cent of the cases pertained to sexual exploitation, even as there were cases related to terror activities and inciting hate against the country, the statistics revealed.

    Rupee rises 27 paise to 70.87 against USD in early trade

    The Indian rupee appreciated by 27 paise to 70.87 against the US dollar in early trade on Tuesday as optimism about US-China trade talks and easing crude oil prices enthused investors.

    At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 70.90, then gained further ground and touched a high of 70.87 against the US dollar, registering a rise of 27 paise over its previous close.

    On Friday, the rupee had settled at 71.14 against the US dollar.

    Trump slams Hillary for calling Tulsi Gabbard Russian agent

    Declaring that Democratic presidential aspirant Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard is "not a Russian agent", US President Donald Trump on Monday slammed his 2016 election rival Hillary Clinton for making such a "wild allegation" against the lawmaker from Hawaii.

    "I don't know Tulsi, but she's not a Russian agent," Trump said.

    Deeply concerned over reports of human rights abuses, religious discrimination in Pak: US

    Describing shrinking space for civil society and media freedom in Pakistan as "troubling", the United States on Tuesday said it remains "deeply concerned" over reports of human rights abuses and discrimination faced by people in the country because of their faith.

    It urged the Pakistani government to uphold the rule of law and the freedoms enshrined in the country's Constitution.

    Acting Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Alice G Wells in a prepared statement to Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, and Nonproliferation of the House Foreign Affairs Committee hoped that the reforms Pakistan is undertaking under its current IMF plan will lay the foundation for better economic management and growth, leading to an improvement in the democratic system and human rights situation.

    Delhi witnessed over 11 pc rise in crime in 2017, compared to 2016

    Delhi saw a rise of over 11 per cent in incidents of crime in 2017 as compared to 2016, data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) said on Monday.

    The national capital recorded the highest crime rate among the Union territories in 2017, accounting for 4.9 per cent of the total cases reported in the country, it said.

    The annual crime data for 2017 was released after a delay of over a year. States such as Gujarat (6.7), Kerala (13.1), Madhya Pradesh (7.6), Maharashtra (9.3), Tamil Nadu (8.4) and Uttar Pradesh (12) accounted for more cases than Delhi, it stated.
