    A man armed with a knife attacked officers inside Paris police headquarters, killing at least four before he was fatally shot Thursday, a French police union official said.     A new train in Tripura opens a new lifeline

    A DEMU train connecting North Tripura to South was flagged off today. 

    Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Thursday flagged off a Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) train that would connect the state's southernmost town Sabroom and Dharmanagar, the northernmost one. Both Sabroom and Dharmanagar are close to Bangladesh border.

    This is the first DEMU train of Tripura.

    Facebook will have to remove 'unlawful' material: ECJ

    BRUSSELS — The European Union’s highest court says that Facebook can be ordered by an individual member state to remove or block access to material which was previously declared unlawful and says that it can have a worldwide impact.

    • The European Court of Justice ruling on Thursday is seen as a defeat for Facebook as it could increase their responsibility for what is appearing on the internet.
    • The court ruled after an Austrian Greens politician sued the internet company in her home nation to remove comments which she considered bad for her reputation and insulting in a post which could be seen by any Facebook user.

    Satellite images show activity around Iranian-flagged tanker

    DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Satellite images released on Thursday show that a once-detained Iranian-flagged oil tanker sitting off the coast of Syria has been approached by a smaller Iranian tanker, an indication the ship could be preparing to transfer its cargo.

    Images released by Maxar Technologies show the Jasmine alongside the Adrian Darya 1 on Wednesday, with mooring lines between them and a crane deployed on the larger vessel.

    The Adrian Darya 1, formerly named the Grace 1, was detained off the British overseas territory of Gibraltar in July while carrying $130 million in crude oil, on suspicion of breaking European Union sanctions by taking the oil to Syria. Gibraltar later released the tanker, after it said Iran promised the ship wouldn’t go to Syria.

    Balasore: Roof of 3-storey building collapses in explosion

    Roof of a three-storeyed building at Achyutpur village in Odisha's Balasore district caved in due to a massive explosion but there was no report of
    any casualty. The incident took place past midnight of Wednesday, police said adding that the explosion also caused severe cracks on the wall of the building. However, no casualty was reported so far.

    The apartment had been sealed and police scientific team has started an investigation into the incident.

    Congress on Thursday released the list of its star campaigners for the Rajasthan bye-polls and named 40 leaders including former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who would be canvassing for the party in the state.

    The central leadership of the party often stays away from campaigning during bye-polls which is also evident in the Congress list which doesn't have names of Sonia, Rahul or Priyanka Gandhi.

    Maruti Nexa outlets cross 1 million sales milestone

    The country's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India on Thursday said it has achieved a sales milestone of over 10 lakh units from its Nexa premium retail network.

    The company had launched Nexa network in 2015 and currently sells models like Ciaz, S-Cross and Baleno from the retail channel. 

    At present, there are over 350 Nexa outlets covering more than 200 cities across the country.

    Southeast Asia's Internet economy to hit $100 billion

    Southeast Asia's Internet economy is estimated to hit $100 billion in 2019, a 39-per cent increase compared to 2018, according to industry forecasts released on Thursday. The annual "e-Conomy SEA" report presented by the Singapore-based investment firm Temasek also projected that the region's digital economy could reach up to $300 billion by 2025, Efe news reported.

    UP couple make a plastic bottle house in Uttarakhand

    Deepti Sharma, a school teacher in Meerut, has built a unique house with her husband at Hartola village in Uttarakhand's Nainital district, using plastic bottles.

    Abhishek Anand, the co-owner of the house, said: "We bought land and started building the house in February 2017 and it took us almost one-and-a-half years to construct the whole place."

    He said that during a trip to Lansdowne in 2016, they had decided that they wanted to have a house in the mountains and not in Noida or Ghaziabad.

    Amarinder proposes canalization of three major rivers

    Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Thursday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take up canalization of the state's three eastern rivers of the Indus Water System as a national project, to enable the conservation of water and enhancement of the region's economic growth.

    In his proposal presented to Modi during a meeting here, the Chief Minister suggested the construction of high-speed economic corridors on 985 km-long river embankments, apart from river training works, flood protection measures and lining of internal side-slopes of the Sutlej, Ravi and Beas.

    NSE to delist 9 companies from Oct 17

    Leading stock exchange NSE will delist nine companies including Lanco Infratech and Moser-Baer from its platform from October 17. Besides, Lanco Infratech and Moser-Baer, the other seven firms that will be delisted are -- Amar Remedies, Supreme Tex Mart, Samtel Color, Hindustan Dorr-Oliver, Servalakshmi Paper, LML and Hanung Toys and Textiles.

    According to the National Stock Exchange (NSE), these nine companies are "under liquidation".

    Odisha RTOs to remain open for two days during Durga puja

    The State Transport Authority has asked all the Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) in Odisha to remain open for two days in Durga puja holidays for
    allotment of registration numbers to vehicles purchased during the festival. The registration section of all RTOs will remain open on October 5 and 7 from 3 PM to 5 PM, said the order issued by the STA.

    The RTOs are also asked to check the dealer premises and ensure that no vehicle is delivered without registration. If dealers of automobile companies are found delivering vehicles without registration, trade licences of the dealers concerned would either be suspended or cancelled, the order said.

    6 dead in Taiwan bridge collapse

    Six people have been confirmed dead after a bridge collapsed in Taiwan earlier this week, officials said.

    Taiwanese rescuers retrieved the body of the last missing person on Thursday. The bridge at the Nanfang'ao fishing port in Yilan County collapsed on Tuesday, smashing onto fishing boats moored underneath.

    A woman and her three-year old son were killed after they came in contact with a live electric wire at Piparhari village in Pailani.

    Sensex falls 150 points in early trade

    Falling for the third straight session, the BSE Sensex declined over 151 points in opening trade on Thursday following weak asian markets amid fresh trade war fears. The NSE gauge Nifty too fell about 51 points in opening deals.

    The 30-share index tanked 151.70 points or 0.40 per cent to trade at 38,153.71. While the broader Nifty was down 51.95 points or 0.46 per cent at 11,307.95 in opening trade.

    Isro to hold space-docking experiment next year

    Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) is now gearing up to conduct a space docking experiment (Spadex) next year, reported TOI.

     “We are going to conduct a docking experiment next year in which two experimental modules will be sent to space (on board a PSLV rocket) and the two will be made to dock with each other in space," TOI quoted Isro chairman K Sivan as saying.

    US working with India to test out technologies to take on challenges: USAID

    The United States is now working with India to help them test out technologies to take on challenges in their social developmental field, a top US aid official said. "In terms of countries that I think are in remarkable places in their development, classic one is India; one of my first visits," USAID Administrator Mark Green said.

    "India, when USAID first started working with India, we were delivering food aid; sacks of grain. And now that would be insulting to Indians. Instead, we're working to help them test out technologies to take on some other challenges," Green said.
