    Assam Police to form SIT to probe Gorajan murders

    Assam Police will form a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the murder of four persons, including three of the same family, at Gorajan village in Nagaon district, a senior officer said on Sunday. Special Director General of Police Harmeet Singh, who visited the house where the murders were committed on Friday night, said that the CID and forensic science experts have already collected evidence from the crime spot. Speaking to reporters, Singh said, "A SIT will be formed under the leadership of Nagaon Superintendent of Police Swapnaneel Deka to take forward the probe. CID and forensic teams visited the spot on Saturday and collected vital evidence, including blood samples and fingerprints."

    Three people were killed as protesters opposing a court-ordered survey of a Mughal-era mosque here clashed with security personnel on Sunday. The protesters tried to torch vehicles and pelted stones at the police who used tear gas and batons to disperse the mob. "Shots were fired by the miscreants and some pellets struck our policemen. We are investigating where the shots were fired from, particularly in the Deepa Sarai area," an officer said.

    The Ahmedabad police have arrested a 29-year-old man who allegedly posed as a senior revenue official and used fake letters claiming to be from various government departments to cheat people, an official said on Sunday.
