Arrested ex-Tripura minister Badal Chowdhury remanded to police custody
Senior CPI(M) leader Badal Chowdhury, arrested in a corruption case, was remanded to police custody for four days on Monday by a local court.
Chowdhury, a CPI(M) central committee member who was the PWD minister during the Left Front regime, was arrested on October 30 from a private hospital where he was admitted.

5 killed in Pak firing incident
At least five persons, including two policemen, have been killed in Pakistan's Punjab province after gunmen opened fire on a police vehicle, according to media reports.
The attack took place on Sunday in Arbi Tibba area of the Rajanpur district where a police team was conducting a raid after receiving information about the presence of the fugitives in the locality, the News International reported.

Panic in UP village after inverter battery explodes inside mosque
An inverter battery exploded in a village mosque in Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar district on Monday creating panic in the area, police said. The incident took place in Bairagi village under Turkpatti Police Station area of Padrauna township of the district, they said.
There was no casualty as nobody was inside the mosque at the time of the incident, Kushinagar Superintendent of Police, Vinod Kumar Mishra said. The walls and roof of the mosque that was built around four years ago were slightly damaged, the SP added.

2 reported missing following avalanche in J-K's Gulmarg
Two porters were reported missing after a snow avalanche hit the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district on Monday, police said.
The incident took place in Gulmarg sector in north Kashmir, a police official said. Efforts were underway to rescue them, the police added.

Drunk techie rams car into 2 people taking selfies on flyover in Hyderabad; both killed
A software engineer under the influence of alcohol rammed his car into two youngsters on the newly-inaugurated Biodiversity flyover in Hyderabad on Sunday. The deceased had parked their bikes on the flyover and were taking selfies when the incident happened.
Both the youngsters were killed in the incident. The accused also hit two more vehicles, injuring four others.

Notification issued for 2nd phase of Jharkhand Assembly polls
The notification for the second phase of the Jharkhand Assembly elections was issued on Monday and the last date for filing the nominations is November 18. In the second phase, 20 Assembly seats will go for polls on December 7.
The notification said the existing Legislative Assembly of Jharkhand will continue till January 5, 2020, unless dissolved earlier.
Elections to the state's 81 Assembly seats will be held in five phases, beginning November 30, and the results will be announced on December 23.

Police personnel held on graft charges
A sub-inspector was arrested for allegedly taking bribe in Rajasthan's Sawai Madhopur district on Monday, an Anti-Corruption Bureau official said. The accused Harbhan Singh posted at Boli Police Station of the district had demanded Rs 3000 as bribe from complainant Shivraj Gurjar to settle a case.
The complaint was verified and a trap was laid to arrest the accused, ACB inspector Narendra Singh said.

Security has been tightened around the famous Har Ki Pairi ghat in Haridwar after an anonymous caller on the mobile phone of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat threatened to blow it up, police said on Monday.
Haridwar SSP Senthil Avoodai Krishna Raj said an anonymous caller rang up the chief minister on his mobile phone at around 3.30 pm on November 9 and made the threat.

Blast at contractor's office-cum-residence in Manipur
Unidentified miscreants on Monday triggered a low-intensity blast at the residence-cum-office of a contractor in Imphal West district. No casualty was reported in the incident, a police officer said.
The Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded at around 5.04 am at the office of Bhartiya Infra Project Limited at Langthabal locality, smashing windowpanes of the building and damaging the compound wall of the structure, he said.
