UP: Man in interfaith relationship thrashed to death by minor girl's family
A 23-year-old man was beaten to death, apparently over an interfaith relationship with a minor girl, police said on Friday. The police have arrested three people -- the girl's father and her two cousins -- for the murder on Thursday of Parvez, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Trans Hindon) Vivek Chandra Yadav said.

Vladimir Putin calls Prime Minister Narendra Modi ‘big friend of Russia’
President Vladimir Putin has called Prime Minister Narendra Modi “a big friend" of Russia and said his 'Make in India' campaign has had a "truly impressive effect" on the country's economy.
Putin made these remarks on Thursday at a forum in Moscow organised by Russia’s Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI).
“Our friends in India and our big friend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, launched the ‘Make in India’ initiative several years ago. It has had a truly impressive effect on the Indian economy. It would do no harm to emulate what is working well, even if it was not us but our friends who created it,” the president was quoted as saying by the RT News.

Rains continue in Mumbai; road traffic hit due to waterlogging at some places
Road traffic in some parts of Mumbai was affected and local train services slowed down to some extent on Friday morning as moderate to heavy rains continued to lash the metropolis and its suburbs, officials said.
Ever since the southwest monsoon made its onset over Mumbai on June 25, the city has been getting showers. In the last 24 hours, Mumbai, its eastern suburbs and western suburbs received an average rainfall of 31 mm, 45 mm and 61 mm respectively, an official said.

Delhi records minimum temperature of 25 degrees, light rain likely
Overcast skies with light rain are expected on Friday in the national capital which recorded a minimum temperature of 25 degrees Celsius, according to India Meteorological Department.
The relative humidity in the city was 92 per cent around 8:30 am. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 36 degrees Celsius, the weather office said.

Supreme Court strikes down affirmative action in college admissions
The Supreme Court on Thursday struck down affirmative action in college admissions, forcing institutions of higher education to look for new ways to achieve diverse student bodies.
The court's conservative majority overturned admissions plans at Harvard and the University of North Carolina, the nation's oldest private and public colleges, respectively.
Chief Justice John Roberts said that for too long universities have “concluded, wrongly, that the touchstone of an individual's identity is not challenges bested, skills built, or lessons learned but the colour of their skin. Our constitutional history does not tolerate that choice."

Biden's envoy for Iran placed on leave while facing review of his security clearance
The Biden administration's special envoy for Iran has stepped aside from his duties pending a review of his security clearance by US authorities.
Rob Malley has led administration efforts to revive the faltering Iran nuclear deal and resolve issues related to detained Americans in Iran, but has not been active in his job for weeks.
There was no immediate indication of why Malley's clearance was being reviewed, but a State Department official said the agency's Bureau of Diplomatic Security was leading the inquiry. That official spoke Thursday on condition of anonymity due to privacy reasons.
