A day after being suspended from the Rajya Sabha for the remaining part of the Winter Session, Trinamool Congress floor leader in the House Derek O'Brien on Wednesday accused the BJP-led government at the Centre of "mocking at and dismantling democracy" and "slow-poisoning Parliament". 

A head constable was killed and another policeman sustained serious injuries on Wednesday after an old building collapsed in Madurai, the government said. Expressing grief and conveying his condolences to the bereaved family, Chief Minister M K Stalin ordered a solatium of Rs 25 lakh to the family of the deceased head constable and a government job to his wife. Stalin ordered assistance of Rs five lakh to the family of another policeman, also a head constable, who was severely injured, an official release said.

Jammu & Kashmir: Terrorists kill civilian at Eidgah Srinagar 

A civilian was shot dead by terrorists in Nawakadal locality of the city on Wednesday, police said. "At about 5:55 pm, terrorists fired at & critically injured a civilian, namely Rouf Ahmad, near his residence in Nawakadal area of Srinagar," a police official said. He said the injured person was shifted to SMHS hospital here, where he succumbed to the injuries.

327 teaching, non-teaching staff members of KVs, JNVs, CBSE died due to COVID-19

A total of 327 teaching and non-teaching staff members of Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and Central Board of Secondary Education expired due to COVID-19 but none of them died during Covid duty, Rajya Sabha was informed on Wednesday.

BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday accused Shiv Sena MLA Bhaskar Jadhav of mocking Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Legislative Assembly and making certain gestures, evoking sharp reactions from the opposition MLAs leading to stalling of the proceedings. Jadhav later apologised when the House reconvened after two adjournments, saying that making hand gestures was his natural way of speaking and that he didn't use any unparliamentary word against the prime minister.
