A woman Congress MLA suffered injuries after a man allegedly attacked her with a knife in Chhattisgarh's Rajnandgaon district on Sunday, police said. The accused, identified as Khileshwar, has been taken into custody, they said.

Police in Pakistan on Sunday arrested six members of the minority Ahmadi community for allegedly posing themselves as Muslims. According to a Pakistani Constitutional amendment in 1974, Ahmadis were declared to be non-Muslims.

Himachal: 10 people, including 5 forest dept employees, trapped in Mandi dam
Ten people, including five employees of the forest department, were trapped at the Kol Dam Hydel Project in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district on Sunday, officials said. "The situation is not life threatening and the trapped people would be rescued soon," Mandi Deputy Commissioner Arindam Chaudhary said.

Delhi: 26-year-old man shot dead at house in Fatehpur Beri area over mistaken identity
A 26-year-old man was allegedly shot dead at his house in south Delhi's Fatehpur Beri area over mistaken identity, police said on Sunday. The accused also got injured after he was beaten by the victim's family members, they said. A PCR call regarding the incident was received at 9.45 pm on Saturday.

Corporate Governance issue wake-up call for startups; saddening to see any lapses
Corporate governance should be seen as a collective and unit responsibility of all stakeholders involved in a startup, Shantanu Deshpande, founder of Bombay Shaving Company has said.
He added that any lapses or deviations are a wake-up call for the ecosystem and are "deeply saddening". On funding winter, Deshpande told PTI that good companies will continue to attract capital, although they may not get a "bullish valuation" at this stage as scrutiny increases and investors turn more careful with their bets. -

Vegetable prices likely to cool down next month, rising crude a bit of concern: FinMin official
The government expects vegetable prices to start cooling off from next month with the advent of new crops in the market, but rising crude oil prices is a concern even though it is still within the tolerable zone of USD 90 a barrel, a finance ministry official said.
The official further said that reduction in excise duty is not on cards and the government is driving infrastructure investment, and private sector capital investment is yet to gather steam. -

PM hails Bindeshwar Pathak for invaluable contribution in field of cleanliness
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday hailed Sulabh International founder Bindeshwar Pathak, who passed away recently, for his "major contribution" of giving an institutional solution to Mahatma Gandhi's ideas on cleanliness.
Social activist Pathak, a pioneer in building public toilets, died at the AIIMS here due to a cardiac arrest last Tuesday. He was 80.
In an article on Pathak in a Hindi daily, Modi said he has been watching Pathak's spirit ever since he was in Gujarat. -

In a shocking incident, a few miscreants were seen open firing at a restaurant in the Muzaffarpur district of Bihar. A man was allegedly shot dead, while two others were injured in the firing by their neighbours over a dispute in Bihar's Begusarai, police said on Sunday. The incident took place at the Kailashpur village in Singhaul police station limits. The deceased was identified as Vikas Yadav.

National e-commerce policy in final stages; to be presented before top-level: official
The proposed national e-commerce policy being formulated by the commerce and industry ministry is in the final stages and no new draft policy will be issued now for seeking views of stakeholders, a senior government official said. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) on August 2 held a detailed discussion with representatives of e-commerce firms and a domestic traders' body on the proposed policy.

Jadavpur University gets officiating vice-chancellor amid row over student's death
West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose appointed Buddhadeb Sau as the officiating vice-chancellor of Jadavpur University on Saturday night, officials said. Sau is a professor in the varsity's Department of Mathematics, they said. Bose, also the chancellor of the varsity, issued orders authorising Sau to exercise the powers and perform the duties of the vice-chancellor with immediate effect, they added.

Chandrayaan-3: ISRO successfully reduces Lander Module orbit bringing it closer to moon
The ISRO on Sunday said it successfully reduced the orbit of the Chandrayaan-3 mission's Lander Module (LM), further bringing it nearer to the moon. The national space agency also said that the LM would now undergo internal checks. The LM, comprising the lander ‘Vikram' and rover ‘Pragyan’, is expected to touch down on the lunar surface on August 23 evening, it said.

Pakistan: Powerful explosion in a vehicle carrying labourers killed several in Waziristan
According to police, the vehicle was private and was carrying the labourers when it hit a landmine in the Gull Meer Kor area. As of now, officials have not released how many were killed in the incident, but locals claimed at least 11-16 workers were feared dead. Soon after the incident, sources said, the injured as well as the bodies of the deceased were shifted to the hospital.
