At least 12 people were injured after the slab of a drainage line caved in under the weight of a crowd gathered near a Lord Ganesh pandal in Gujarat's Rajkot city on Sunday night, an official said. Several people fell on the floor of the drainage after the concrete slab covering it gave way in Sarveshwar chowk area, said Rajkot collector Prabhav Joshi.

Train services were affected in the Kothavasala-Kirandul line of Waltair division of East Coast Railway (ECoR) on Sunday due to a huge landslide between Manabar and Jarati stations in Odisha, an official statement said. The incident took place late on Saturday night and the debris covered the tracks. Restoration work is underway in full swing and railway officials are present at the spot, A K Tripathi, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of the Waltair division said in the statement.

Three people, including a 22-year-old woman who was allegedly having an affair with her nephew, were arrested in connection with her husband's murder, police said on Sunday. Aarti, a resident of Shivpuri village in the Fatehganj area, allegedly had an affair with her nephew Manvendra Singh. Singh and his friend Saurabh have also been arrested, they said.

Two newborns died at a private clinic in Shamli district on Sunday allegedly because they were kept in a room that was too cold, police said. The families of the newborns alleged that the owner of the clinic -- Dr Neetu -- on Saturday had kept the air conditioner on overnight because he wanted to sleep well. The babies were found dead the next morning.

He was 89. He is survived by his wife Sharada, a son and a daughter. He was not keeping well for the last one year, the family sources said.

A 35-year-old man was killed when a slab of his house collapsed on him in Maharashtra’s Thane district on Sunday, police said. The accident occurred at a tenement in the Shahapur area around 9 am, an official said. The victim Sunil Khmbait was cleaning his house when the slab collapsed on him, he said.

Maharashtra cabinet minister Sudhir Mungantiwar has urged Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to announce a special package for soybean farmers in Chandrapur district saying an outbreak of yellow mosaic disease has destroyed the crop. Soybean was cultivated on 67,766 hectares in the district but was hit by the yellow mosaic virus in August, said a release by the BJP leader, who represents the Ballarpur constituency in the area.

Three people went missing after being swept away in the Parvati river near Kishanpura village in Rajasthan's Kota district, police said on Sunday. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when the three people were taking a bath in the river's overflowing water and catching fish, they said.

Two drug smugglers have been arrested and 12 kgs of heroin and Rs 19.3 cash were recovered from them in a joint operation of the state police and the Border Security Force, Punjab Police said on Sunday. The narcotics were brought from Pakistan through drones, they said. Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, in a post on ‘X’, said, “Big blow to trans-border narcotic network: Gurdaspur police and BSF, in a joint operation, have seized 12 kg of heroin along with Rs 19.3 lakh drug money from 2 smugglers.”

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has accused the BJP of putting obstacles such as delimitation in implementing the Women’s Reservation Bill. Alleging that the BJP has displayed its hypocrisy by putting barriers like delimitation, the chief minister said, "This bill was a fraud done to women." The bill, named as 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ was passed in the Lok Sabha on September 20 and was cleared by the Rajya Sabha a day later. The bill will grant reservations to women on one-third of seats in Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

At least seven passengers were assaulted and belongings worth Rs 76,000 were looted by robbers in Sambalpur-Jammu Tawi Express in Jharkhand’s Latehar district, a railway official said on Sunday.
