Delhi cop found dead inside house
A 46-year-old Assistant Sub-Inspector was found dead inside his house in central Delhi on Saturday, Police said. At 2.43 pm Saturday, police got a call informing them that a police personnel was found dead in his home on Mir Dard Road, opposite GB Pant hospital, and there were two kids with the body.

Chhattisgarh: Naxalite carrying Rs 10 lakh reward surrenders before police in Bijapur
A 27-year-old Naxalite carrying a reward of Rs 10 lakh on his head surrendered before the police in the insurgency-hit Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on Saturday, an official said. Lallu Modiyan, a member of the Jharkhand Regional Committee, surrendered before the police citing indiscrimination and exploitation in the banned organisation, he said.

Robbers decamp with Rs 9 lakh from ATM in Punjab's Hoshiarpur
Robbers broke open an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) using a gas cutter and decamped with around Rs 9 lakh in Chotala village, about 24 km from here, police said on Saturday. They also damaged the CCTV cameras at the kiosk before feeling late on Friday night, the police said. Assistant manager of the bank branch Anil Kumar, who was on a morning walk, noticed the robbery and informed the police that Rs 9 lakh had been removed from the machine. Tanda Deputy Superintendent of Police Kulwant Singh said teams have been formed to trace the accused and they are examining footage from CCTV cameras installed in the area. The exact number of robbers involved in the crime is yet to be ascertained, he added.

Maharashtra: Differently abled woman gang-raped in Jalna; 3 held
A differently abled woman was gang-raped by five men at a village in Maharashtra's Jalna district, police said on Saturday. The police have apprehended three accused involved in the crime, while a manhunt has been launched to track down two others, an official said. The incident took place in Dabhadi village in Badnapur tehsil of the district on August 28 and it came to light earlier this week, he said. The family members of the differently abled victim found out about the assault on Wednesday and approached the police, the official said. The arrested accused were presented before a local court, which remanded them to police custody for five days, he said, adding that further probe is underway.

Man stabbed to death in north Delhi
A man was stabbed to death over a friendship with a woman in north Delhi, police said on Saturday. Nazim stabbed Ajay around 9 pm on Friday at Subash Marg road. Ajay was taken to a hospital where he was declared brought dead, they said. According to police, both the victim and the accused are vagabonds and were living in the Jamna Bazar area. The incident took place over a friendship with a woman, they said. The accused has been arrested, police said.

HPCL collaborates with Indian Army for CSR Project in Kargil
Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) has collaborated with the Indian Army for implementing a CSR project to coach and mentor less-privileged girl students in Kargil, a company statement said. The project -- 'Kargil Ignited Minds' -- aims to prepare 50 girl students for various national-level engineering and medical entrance examinations. It will focus on empowering the underprivileged girls with limited resources, residing in extreme weather conditions. The selection of students for this project is through a rigorous process involving screening, preliminary test and interviews. "HPCL has collaborated with the Indian Army to provide a learning platform 'Kargil Ignited Minds' for coaching and mentoring aspiring but less-privileged girl students of Kargil Region in UT Ladakh," the statement said.

Uttar Pradesh: Man booked for raping Class 2 student in Ballia
A 25-year-old man was booked for allegedly raping a seven-year-old girl in the Nagra area here, police said on Saturday. The accused lured the girl when she was playing outside, took her to his house on a motorcycle and raped her, they said, adding the incident took place on September 5. A case has been registered against the accused following a complaint by the girl's father, police said, adding he initially felt hesitant to report the matter to the police. Efforts are on to arrest the accused, they said. The victim is a Class 2 student, police said.

Haryana: Mining mafia attacks police team in Nuh, FIR registered against 50 unidentified people
Months after a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) was killed, the mining mafia again attacked a joint team of the police and local Mining Department and Regional Transport Authority (RTA) on Friday during a raid at an illegal mining site in the Nuh district of Haryana, said police. The team was allegedly attacked by unidentified people during a raid at an illegal mining site in Nuh. "FIR has been registered against five identified people and around 40-50 unidentified people. 3 porcelain machines have been seized," said Usha Kundu, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nuh. Earlier on July 19, DSP Surendra Singh Bishnoi was mowed down by a truck at a site where he was probing illegal mining in Nuh in Haryana on July 19.A total of nine people have been arrested in connection with the killing of Nuh DSP. The main accused in the Nuh DSP killing, identified as Shabir alias Mittar hailing from Tauru, Haryana was arrested after an encounter with the Haryana Police on July 20.

Man stabbed to death in Kochi
A man was stabbed to death on Saturday morning, at Kaloor near here, after a skirmish between two groups due to previous enmity, police said. Thammanam native Sajjan was killed after he, along with a group of seven others, went to one Kiran Antony's house to question him over an alleged provocative Facebook post. Antony (28), who also got injured in the fight, was taken into custody following Sajjan's death, police said. He is admitted to a private hospital, police added. "It seems like there was already some previous enmity between the groups. Today morning, Sajjan and others went to Antony's place to question him over some Facebook posts. We are examining the backstory. There were many incidents of fights between them in the past," a senior police official from the district told PTI. The official said others also suffered minor injuries in the incident.

Maharashtra: 4 of family killed after falling off flyover as SUV hits their motorcycle; driver held
Four members of a family, including two minor brothers, were killed after they were tossed up in the air and fell off a flyover when a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) rammed into their motorcycle in Nagpur city of Maharashtra, police said. The accident took place in Sakkardara area of the city around 9 pm on Friday. The driver of the SUV, Ganesh Adhav, was later arrested by the police, an official said.

Milma registers all-time record sale of milk, curd in Kerala this Onam
Milma, a state government-owned milk cooperative society, has achieved an all-time record in the sale of milk, curd and other dairy products during the Onam festival days from September 4 to 7, registering a steep increase from last year's figures. Milma said the total sale of milk during these four days stood at 94,59,576 litres, marking an increase of 11.12 per cent compared to the Onam days last year. "A record quantity of 35,11,740 litres of milk was sold on Thiruvonam day alone which fell on September 8, showing a rise of 7.03 per cent from last year," Milma said in a release on Friday.

2 cleaners die of toxic sewer fumes in Outer Delhi's Bakkarwala
A sweeper and a security guard died on Friday in Outer Delhi's Mundka area after they inhaled toxic gases inside a sewer they had gone down to clean, police said. Police got a call at 3.43 pm informing them that a man had fallen inside a sewer in Pocket-D of Lok Nayak Puram, Bakkarwala, they said. They reached the spot, Highway Apartment, and found two men lying unconscious in a sewer, a senior police officer said. They were identified as Rohit Chandiliya, 32, a resident of JJ Colony Bakkarwala, and Ashok, 30, a resident of Jhajjar in Haryana, police said. Chandiliya worked as a private sweeper in the colony and Ashok as security guard in DDA flats, police said. There was a complaint of sewer blockage in the society and Chandilya was the first one to go down the sewer. But as soon as he inhaled the toxic fumes inside, he fell unconscious and fell down, said a police officer.

Strong earthquakes shake part of Indonesia's West Papua
A series of strong inland earthquakes shook Indonesia's easternmost province Saturday, but there were no immediate reports of serious damage or casualties. The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency said at least four land-based earthquakes between 6.2 and 5.5 magnitude were centred about 37 km (23 miles) northwest of Central Mamberamo district of West Papua province at a depth up to 16 km (10 miles). Those earthquakes posed no danger of triggering a tsunami, said Daryono, who heads the Earthquake and Tsunami Mitigation Division. He said the earthquakes were triggered by a thrust in the Memberamo Anjak fault.

Trains collide in Croatia, killing at least 3, injuring 11
A passenger train and freight train collided Friday night in central Croatia, killing at least three people and injuring another 11 or more, authorities said. The collision happened around 9:30 pm near the town of Novska, which is close to Croatia's border with Bosnia, police said in a statement. “The impact was huge,” said Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, who rushed to the scene with other government officials.

'The Crown' pauses production because of queen's death
“The Crown,” Netflix's acclaimed series about Queen Elizabeth II and her family, has paused production due to the monarch's death. A spokesperson for the series said production was paused on Friday “as a mark of respect” and will also be suspended on the day of the queen's funeral. The show is in production on its sixth season. Its first two seasons starred Claire Foy as the young princess Elizabeth ascending to the throne and gradually growing into her role as monarch, and seasons three and four featured Olivia Colman as a more mature queen. King Charles III signals his reign will offer change of tone
As the United Kingdom mourns a beloved queen, the nation is already wondering how King Charles III will reign and whether his monarchy will depart from the traditions of his mother. If his first full day on the throne is any indication, Charles seemed ready to chart at least a slightly different course. US President Joe Biden to attend Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral
US President Joe Biden has said that he would attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom. “Yes. I do not know what the details are yet, but I will be going,” Biden told reporters at the Columbus International Airport in Ohio on Friday. He was responding to a question of whether he will be going to the Queen's funeral. In response to another question, the president said he has not spoken to King Charles III yet. “I know him. I have not spoken to him yet,” he added. In Brussels, US Secretary of State Tony Blinken said Queen Elizabeth II was a powerful, unifying force, and a source of comfort and resilience to millions of people from all walks of life. “On behalf of the United States, I extend our deepest condolences to our British friends, government of the United Kingdom and to the royal family,” he said.
