A medical student died allegedly by suicide in Barmer district of Rajasthan on Monday. The deceased, a second-year student of the Barmer Medical College, was found hanging in her room on Monday evening. Police recovered a suicide note but the reasons are not clear yet. She was a resident of Khetri town of Jhunjhunu district. The body has been shifted to the mortuary of the district hospital.

A minor girl was kidnapped at gunpoint and raped by two youths living in her neighbourhood in the Gangoh police station area of the district. The class 10 student was kidnapped by a youth and his brother when she was mopping the outer courtyard of her house, Saharanpur Superintendent of Police (Rural) Atul Sharma said.

The youths took the girl to their house and rendered her unconscious by making her smell stupefying substance, the SP said, adding that the duo then raped the girl.

The girl returned home after she regained consciousness and told his family members about the incident following which the girl’s father lodged a complaint at the police station, Sharma said. The police subsequently got the girl medically examined and have launched a probe into the complaint. 

The Sikkim Assembly on Monday paid respects to three former legislators who died recently. As soon as the House convened for the fifth session of the 10th Assembly, Speaker L B Das informed the members that Sikkim has lost three eminent personalities - former Deputy Chief Minister P T Lucksom, former minister Thukchuk Lachungpa and Sukumar Pradhan, all former legislators.

The Speaker led the members in observing a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed souls. Das adjourned the House till Tuesday given that the funeral ceremony of Thukchuk Lachungpa will be held later in the day. The obituary references shall be taken up on Tuesday, he said.

The Nagaland government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the 13 people killed in firing by security forces in Mon district. The state government also decided to set up a High-Level Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by an IGP level officer to probe the incident that took place on Saturday evening, according to an official statement. 

Thirteen civilians were killed and 11 others injured by security forces in two consecutive incidents of firing, the first of which was possibly a case of mistaken identity.
