    Two men held for extorting Rs 9 lakh from lawyer in Gurugram

    Two men were held for allegedly extorting Rs 9 lakh from a lawyer here in connivance with three policemen, arrested earlier, police on Tuesday said. The two, arrested on Monday, were produced in a city court on Tuesday and were taken on one-day police remand, they said. Police also recovered Rs 3 lakh in cash from their possession.

    Govt cuts windfall tax on fuel export, raises levy on domestic crude oil

    The government on Tuesday evening cut the windfall tax on diesel and ATF in line with softening international petroleum product prices but raised the duty on domestically produced crude oil. While the tax on export of diesel was cut to Rs 5 per litre from Rs 11, that on jet fuel (ATF) was scrapped, an official notification showed.

    MP logs 164 COVID-19 cases, no new death; active tally at 1,493

    Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday logged 164 new cases of coronavirus, taking their total count to 10,50,226, but no fresh death linked to the infection was registered in the state, a health department official said. The COVID -19 toll remained unchanged at 10,756, he added.

    Akasa Air to launch daily flights on Chennai-Mumbai route from Sept 15

    Akasa Air on Tuesday said it would fly daily direct flights on the Chennai-Mumbai route from next month onwards as its gears to launch its commercial operation in the country later this week. The flights between Chennai and Mumbai sector would commence from September 15, a company statement said.

    Chhattisgarh records 595 coronavirus cases, 3 deaths; active tally at 3,360

    Chhattisgarh on Tuesday reported 595 new COVID-19 cases at a positivity rate of 5.13 per cent, taking the tally to 11,67,016, while the death toll increased by three to reach 14,070, an official said. The recovery count rose to 11,49,586 after 713 people recuperated from the infection during the day, leaving the state with 3,360 active cases, he said.

    Delhi's first monkeypox patient discharged from hospital: Officials

    Delhi's first monkeypox patient has been discharged from the LNJP Hospital, senior officials said on Tuesday. The 34-year-old man, a resident of west Delhi, had tested positive last month. Fourteen of his contacts, including the doctor who first treated him, were quarantined but none of them developed symptoms, officials said.

    The Mumbai Police probing the criminal intimidation case against Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut is awaiting the original audio recorded by the woman complainant and will submit it to the forensic science laboratory in Kalina to identify the caller, an official said on Tuesday.     Assam logs 508 new COVID cases, no deaths

    Assam registered a sharp spike in COVID-19 cases as 508 people tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours, 448 more than the previous day, taking the overall coronavirus tally in the state to 7,39,514, a National Health Mission (NHM), bulletin said. The new cases were detected from 7,549 samples tested for the virus during the day with the positivity rate of 6.73 per cent, it said on Monday.

    California governor declares monkeypox state of emergency
