In a shocking incident, a man killed his mother over a suspected property dispute in Gurugram's Shivpuri area, the police said on Friday. The incident happened around 8.30 p.m. on Thursday. The accused, Manish Bhandari, who has been arrested now, stabbed his 66-year-old mother, Veena Kumari, in the neck and chest several times with a knife, leaving her seriously injured. She was then rushed to the civil hospital, where she was declared dead by the doctors.

The Punjab Police has registered an FIR against a Delhi BJP leader for allegedly sharing on his Twitter handle a "doctored video clip" of AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal. The FIR against Delhi BJP's media cell head Naveen Kumar Jindal was registered by the police in Mohali on Thursday night on the basis of a complaint filed by a Punjab and Haryana High Court advocate, sub-inspector Gagandeep Singh, SHO of Mohali's Phase 11 police station, said on Friday. This is the second case registered by the Punjab Police against a Delhi BJP leader after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) came to power in the border state.

Three suspected terror operatives, nabbed from Tripura’s Sepahijala district for their alleged involvement in anti-national activities, were granted conditional bail on Friday by a special court. Based on intelligence inputs, the trio -- Imran Hussain (24), Hamid Ali (34) and Abul Kashem (32) -- were arrested under various sections of the IPC and the UAPA from Jatrapur area on April 4. The suspects, allegedly linked to a banned Islamic outfit of Bangladesh, were granted conditional bail by the special court of judge SB Datta.

More than 34.42 crore beneficiaries have received Rs 18.60 lakh crore loan under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) since its launch seven years ago, the Finance Ministry said on Friday. The PMMY was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 8, 2015, for providing loans up to Rs 10 lakh to the non-corporate and non-farm small/micro-enterprises. "It is noteworthy that more than 34.42 crore loan accounts amounting to Rs 18.60 lakh crore have been opened under the Scheme for the creation of income-generating activities," Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharman said on the seventh anniversary of the scheme.

Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Kamal Pant on Friday said four schools in the city have received bomb threat through e-mail and police teams are at the spot conducting checks. "Four schools on the outskirts of Bengaluru have received bomb threat through email, our local police are checking about it," Pant said. Speaking to reporters here, he said, there is a drill, and as per that the bomb squads have gone there for checking.

The Special Task Force of Odisha Police rescued a pangolin from Bolangir district, an official said. On the basis of reliable information, a team of STF conducted a raid with the help of Bolangir Forest Officials on Thursday night at Ainlapalli village under Tusura Police Station area in Bolangir district and rescued the pangolin. Two persons were found in possession of the pangolin, the official said. While the accused persons were handed over to Bolangir Forest Officials for necessary legal action at their end, the pangolin was given to the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) for safe custody.

Police have busted an interstate gang of women pickpockets and arrested four of its members, officials said on Friday. Circle officer of Budhana Vinay Gautam said the four women were arrested in his jurisdiction on Thursday after the police acted on a tip-off. They have been identified as Gauri, Sonia, Jagwati and Neha, all aged between 30 and 35 years, and hail from Madhya Pradesh.

The global coronavirus caseload has topped 496.2 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 6.17 million and vaccinations to over 11.08 billion, according to Johns Hopkins University. In its latest update on Friday morning, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and the death toll stood at 496,272,687 and 6,170,501, respectively, while the total number of vaccine doses administered has increased to 11,084,116,706. The US continues to be the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 80,289,237 and 984,571 respectively, according to the CSSE.

An explosion at a military camp bar on the outskirts of eastern Congo's largest city killed at least eight people Thursday night, a government spokesman said. The victims had gathered for drinks in the Katindo military camp around 7.40 pm, Patrick Muyaya said on his Twitter account.

A 60-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed by her own son at Shivpuri colony here, police said on Thursday. The woman was rushed to a hospital and is in a critical condition, they said. The woman has been identified as Veena Bhandari, a resident of shivpuri colony under the New Colony police station. When she was taking a stroll on the street near her home, her son Manish Bhandari approached her and start abusing her. Soon he stabbed her many times and escaped from the spot, the police said.

The Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday signed an MoU for setting up medical colleges in the state’s Sambhal and Maharajganj districts under the public-private partnership mode. The MoU was signed in the presence of CM Yogi Adityanath at his official residence here, a statement said. Adityanath said for the first time in the state medical colleges are being set up through the PPP mode and asked the medical education department to proceed ahead in a time-bound manner.

The Ghazipur slaughterhouse in east Delhi will be closed from April 8 to 10 coinciding with the last three days of Navratra festival, the area's mayor has said. East Delhi Mayor Shyam Sunder Aggarwal on Tuesday had said that the three-day closure of the abattoir was an annual exercise and "not a new order". He had also "appealed" to traders to keep meat shops closed during Navratra or at least on the last three days of the festival, even as the authorities said "no official order" had been issued in this connection. Aggarwal had also claimed that during Navratra, "90 per cent of the people do not consume non-vegetarian food".

An attacker opened fire into a crowded bar in central Tel Aviv on Thursday, killing at least two people and wounding several others before fleeing into a dense residential area, Israeli officials said. Police said there were “indications” it was a politically motivated attack — the fourth deadly assault in Israel in less than three weeks at a time of heightened Israeli-Palestinian tensions.
