New Delhi: Retired Supreme Court judge AK Ganguly, accused of sexually harassing a law intern, today said he would not resign as the Chairman of the West Bengal Human Rights Commission.

Speaking with India TV Justice Ganguly cited two points to buttress his claim:

Firstly, he pointed out that people were pressurising him to resign on moral grounds but his claim is that he is not accepting the crime, so if he resign then morally it will be his acceptance that he has committed the crime.

Secondly, he claimed that legally nothing has been proved against him and unless it is legally proved he will not resign.

The allegations against Justice Ganguly surfaced in a blog last month by a young lawyer, who did not name him, but said she had been sexually harassed by the judge she was interning for at a five-star hotel in Delhi last December.

A three-judge committee appointed by the Chief Justice of India found the law intern's charges having substance, and remarked that Justice Ganguly's behaviour was inappropriate.
