    Gurgaon tops in anti-Covid vaccination coverage

    Millennium City Gurgaon which has inoculated 49.3 per cent of its people eligible for Covid shots has topped among 24 cities in a Union government's survey of their vaccination coverage, Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij said on Tuesday.

    Vij said till June 12, over 8.5 lakh people in Gurgaon have been vaccinated against the COVID-19 with both doses of the vaccine.

    Kerala to ease lockdown restrictions from June 17

    The Kerala government on Tuesday decided to ease lockdown restrictions from June 17 and announced a slew of steps, including allowing shops selling essential goods to open every day from 7 AM to 7 PM and reopen state-run beverages outlets in a restricted manner.

    Jharkhand declares black fungus as epidemic

     The Jharkhand government on Tuesday declared mucormycosis an epidemic amid the rising number of cases in the state. There are 130 suspected cases of mucormycosis, commonly known as black fungus, in the state. Of them, 79 cases have been confirmed, said a senior official at the Chief Minister's Office.

    So far, 25 people have died in the state due to black fungus, while 37 have recovered, he said.

    Assam extends restrictions till June 22

    The Assam government on Tuesday extended the ongoing COVID-19 restriction till June 22, easing certain curbs in some districts. The order issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) and signed by Chief Secretary Jishnu Barua listed a new set of guidelines, which will be in force from 5 am on June 16 till 5 am on June 22.

    No new COVID-19 case reported in Dharavi for second day

    Mumbai's slum colony Dharavi did not report any fresh coronavirus case for the second day in a row on Tuesday, a senior Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official said.

    On Monday, for the first time since February 2, no new case was detected in the slum-dominated area during the second wave of the pandemic.

    Health Ministry on Covid situation

    • Almost 85% decline has been seen in daily cases since the highest reported peak. We are witnessing this situation after 75 days, thus indicating an overall decline in infection rate: Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Health Ministry
    • In the age group of 1-10 years, 3.28% of children contracted COVID19 infection in the first wave while 3.05% during the second wave. 8.03% got infected in 11-20 years of age group in first wave and 8.5% in the second wave: Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Health Ministry

    Sensex, Nifty leap to new highs

    Equity benchmark Sensex jumped by another 221 points to scale a new closing high of 52,773 on Tuesday, propelled by gains in index majors Reliance, Infosys, and HDFC twins amid largely positive global cues. At the closing bell, the 30-share BSE index quoted 221.52 points or 0.42 per cent higher at 52,773.05. Likewise, the broader NSE Nifty rose 57.40 points or 0.36 per cent to settle at a fresh high of 15,869.25.

    Asian Paints was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, rising around 3 per cent, followed by Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, Hindustan Unilever, IndusInd Bank, Infosys and HDFC Bank. On the other hand, Bajaj Finserv, Dr Reddy’s, Titan, Sun Pharma, Bajaj Finance and PowerGrid were among the laggards.
