The Supreme Court will hear on Monday a batch of pleas related to the controversy-ridden medical entrance exam NEET-UG 2024, including those alleging irregularities and malpractices in the May 5 test and seeking a direction to conduct it afresh. The Centre and the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts NEET-UG, recently told the apex court that scrapping the exam would be "counterproductive" and "seriously jeopardise" lakhs of honest candidates in the absence of any proof of large-scale breach of confidentiality.

At least seven vehicles were damaged after being hit by an overspeeding dumper on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway early Sunday, police said. No one was injured in the incident which took place near Kunfar on the busy road, they said. The officials said the dumper was coming from the Jammu side when its driver lost control apparently due to overspeeding and hit seven vehicles before coming to a halt. A section of the highway remained closed for traffic for over an hour following the accident, they said, adding police have registered a case and further investigation is on.

The Odisha government has asked all district collectors to identify encroachments on government land in both rural and urban areas and remove encroachments as per extant rules expeditiously. Additional chief secretary (ACS), Revenue and Disaster Management department, Satyabrata Sahu has written a letter to all collectors in this direction on Saturday.

The flood situation in Assam remained grim on Sunday with close to 24 lakh people reeling under waters, official sources said. Several major rivers, including the Brahmaputra, were flowing over the danger level across the state. The toll in this year's flood, landslide and storm is at 70, the sources added.
