    NIA court in J-K's Kulgam issues non-bailable warrant against LeT terrorist

     An NIA court in the Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday issued a non-bailable warrant against a Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist Basit Ahmad Dar.
    The case pertains to the killing of two non-local labourers in 2021 at Larm Ganjipora in the south Kashmir district.

    Man's body found hanging from tree in Noida

    A 50-year-old man's body was found hanging from a tree along a service road in Noida, with the police suspecting it to be a case of suicide, officials said on Tuesday.
    The police said the man took the extreme step due to domestic disputes.

    Israeli military kills 3 Palestinian gunmen in volatile West Bank

    The Israeli military said it shot and killed three Palestinian gunmen in the northern occupied West Bank on Tuesday, the latest bloodshed in one of the most violent stretches of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in years.
    Israeli security forces said they opened fire at Palestinian militants who had shot at them from a black Skoda in the West Bank city of Nablus, the territory's commercial capital and a major focus of the Israeli military's recently stepped-up raids.

    Punjab floods: 41 killed, over 1,600 people living in relief camps

     Forty-one people were killed while 1,616 are still living in 173 relief camps following the devastating floods that hit Punjab recently, officials said on Tuesday.
    Nineteen districts -- Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Faridkot, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar, Kapurthala, Patiala, Moga, Ludhiana, SAS Nagar, Jalandhar, Sangrur, SBS Nagar, Fazilka, Gurdaspur, Mansa, Bathinda and Pathankot -- were affected by the floods.

    Ensure violence ends in Manipur, NHRC tells state govt

    The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Tuesday directed the Manipur government to ensure that no further violence takes place in the strife-torn northeastern state.
    In a statement issued late night, the NHRC has also asked the state government to inform it about the relief and rehabilitation of the victims affected by the ethnic violence.

    Adopting name `INDIA' will not change opposition's nature: Goa CM

    Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said even though opposition parties have adopted the name `INDIA' for their alliance, it will not change their "nature".
    “Truth doesn't change! Adopting the name I.N.D.I.A. will not change the nature of opposition whose politics and policies are against the interests of India and Indians,” he tweeted.

    Congress slams PM Modi for taking dig at opposition alliance; says he has started 'hating India'

    The Congress hit back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday over his remarks targeting the opposition alliance, with Rahul Gandhi saying "call us whatever you want" but "we are INDIA" and will rebuild the idea of India in Manipur. Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said while "we are talking about Manipur, which is burning", the prime minister is "talking about East India (Company) and saying INDIA means East India (Company)". 

    Later, in a tweet in Hindi, Kharge said, "While we are talking about Manipur, the prime minister, outside the House, is calling 'INDIA' as 'East India Company'. The Congress party has always been with 'Mother India' i.e.'Bharat Mata'. "The slaves of the British were the political ancestors of the BJP. Prime Minister Modi, stop diverting the attention of the country with your rhetoric. Narendra Modiji, speak about Manipur in Parliament, do not belittle the dignity of the post of prime minister by calling INDIA, that is Bharat, good or bad," the Congress president tweeted.

    Gyanvapi mosque management moves high court over ASI survey

    The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday began hearing a plea against a district court order directing the Archaeological Survey of India to conduct a survey to determine if the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi was built upon a temple.

    The plea is being heard in the court of Prakash Padia. On Monday, the Supreme Court had halted the ASI survey till 5 pm Wednesday, allowing time for the mosque management to appeal against the lower court’s order

    PM Modi cites names of 'East India company', PFI to hit back at Opposition alliance INDIA

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday took a jibe at the opposition alliance INDIA, citing reviled names like East India Company and Popular Front of India to assert that people cannot be misled merely by the use of the country's name. In his address to the BJP parliamentary party, Modi said the opposition is frustrated and disappointed and its conduct shows that it has made up its mind to remain in the opposition, sources quoting him said.

    He expressed confidence that the BJP will come to power after the 2024 polls with people's support, asserting that India will become the third largest economy in his government's next tenure. With opposition parties rallying around the name of their 'INDIA', Modi hit back at them saying it is just an attempt to mislead people, sources said.

    IMD issues 'orange' alert for Mumbai, Thane and Raigad; predicts heavy to very heavy rains

    The India Meteorological Department's (IMD) Mumbai centre has issued an 'orange' alert for the Maharashtra capital and neighbouring Thane and Raigad districts, predicting heavy to very heavy rains at isolated places on Tuesday, a civic official said.

    Most parts of the city witnessed overcast sky, but no rain since early Tuesday morning. After a heavy downpour last week, the rain intensity reduced in Mumbai since Sunday. In some parts of Mumbai, the sun briefly came out of the clouds on Monday.

    2 LeT terrorists apprehended at J-K's Baramulla, arms recovered

    Two terrorist associates of the LeT outfit with arms ammunition were arrested at Chak Tapper Kreeri and their case was registered under UA(P)Act & Arms Act.     Haryana: Mother held for killing twin infant daughters in Jind district

    A woman has been arrested for allegedly smothering her nine-month-old twin daughters with a pillow in this Haryana district, police have said. The incident was reported from Danoda village.

    Investigating officer at the Sadar police station Narwana Atma said on Monday that a murder case has been registered against accused Sheetal and she has been taken into custody. The accused confessed to her crime 13 days after the incident, following which her husband got a complaint lodged, police said.

    Intruder from Pakistan shot dead along international border in J-K's Samba

     A Pakistani intruder was shot dead by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel along the International Border (IB) in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Tuesday.

    Alert border guards picked up suspicious movement near the S M Pura post in the Ramgarh sector late Monday night and opened fire when the suspected intruder paid no heed to the repeated warnings, the officials said.

    One person was hit and died on the spot in the firing, they said, adding the search of the area was underway. The officials said further details were awaited.

    US to send up to USD 400 million in military aid to Ukraine: Officials

    The Biden administration is sending up to USD 400 million in additional military aid to Ukraine, including a variety of munitions for advanced air defence systems and a number of small, surveillance Hornet drones, US officials said Monday, as attacks in the war escalated to include strikes in Moscow and Crimea.

    The package includes an array of ammunition — ranging from missiles for the High-Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) and the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS) to Stingers and Javelins. The weapons are being provided through presidential drawdown authority, which allows the Pentagon to quickly take items from its own stocks and deliver them to Ukraine, often within days.
