"The temperatures have dropped further over most parts of India, right from Indo-Gangetic plains up to the central parts of the country. The icy cold winds from the snow-clad mountains of the Himalayas are reaching up to Northwest India," Skymet Weather reported.

A massive crowd gathered at Mysuru's Town Hall to protest against the Citizenship Act and NRC. Protesters were holding tricolours and placards to protest against the CAA. 

Haryana Deputy CM and JJP chief Dushyant Chautala on JJP MLA RK Gautam resigned as party vice president said: "He is a senior leader, if he has some grievance, he can come and tell the party members. We've not received his resignation yet. Senior party leaders will talk to him and discuss the matter."

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday accused the opposition of creating confusion over the Citizenship Amendment Act and spoiling the atmosphere in the national capital by misleading the people.
Addressing an event organised by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Shah said the time is up for the Kejriwal government in Delhi and the BJP will form the next government in the national capital.
"The opposition led by the Congress created confusion about the Citizenship Amendment Act. By misleading people on the CAA, the opposition spoiled the peaceful atmosphere of Delhi," Shah said on the recent anti CAA protests, some of which turned violent. 

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has made it mandatory for PhD students to study two new courses in publication ethics and misconduct for pre-registration course work. The decision was taken by the Commission in its recent meeting.

"The UGC in its recent meeting approved two credit courses for awareness about publication ethics and publication misconduct to be made compulsory for all PhD students for pre-registration course work," a senior UGC official said.

The BJP on Thursday hit back at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his liar jibe at the prime minister, dubbing him as "joothon ka sardar" (master of lies) and saying detention camps in Assam were set up when the Congress was in power both at the Centre and the state.

Hitting back at Rahul, BJP spokesperson Sambhit Patra said he has used objectionable language but it was too much to ask for decency in public discourse from him.

"Rahul Gandhi is Joothon ka Sardar. The three detention centres were set up in Assam by his party which was in power both at the Centre and the state," he said.

North India including national capital Delhi reeled under an intense cold wave as minimum temperature dipped to 5°C on Thursday. The maximum temperature during the day is expected to remain under 14°C. Weather news portal, Skymet predicted rain across North India due to cyclonic circulation. 

IMD forecast for next 7 days says the minimum temperature in Delhi and adjoining region including Noidauru, Gurugram and Greater Noida is expected to remain between 4 to 5-degree Celcius. 

IMD also issued severe weather advisory in wake of the cold wave that has gripped North India. 

According to the IMD, the minimum temperature in Chandigarh was expected to remain between 5-6°C for the next few days with generally cloudy sky with fog and mist in the morning.

Former BJP MP Savitri Bai Phule who joined Congress earlier this year, has resigned from the party. She said, "My voice is not being heard in Congress,hence I am resigning. I will form my own party"

"Leaders are not those who lead people in inappropriate directions, as we are witnessing in a large number of universities and college students...the way they are leading masses of crowds to carry out arson and violence in our cities and towns," COAS General Bipin Rawat said at an event.

Chief of Indian Army General Bipin Rawat has slammed violence in name of CAA. General Rawat also said it is the duty of leaders to give right advice. "Leader is one who gives the right advice,"  he said. 

"On day when we are attired in Delhi to protect ourselves from cold,I wish to pay reverence to my soldiers who stand steadfast manning Saltoro ridge in Siachen&others manning high altitude positions where temperature ranges between -10 to -45 degrees," General Rawat said.

RTI activist Akhil Gogoi's residence in Guwahati was raided by NIA officers today. Gogoi is in NIA custody on charges of sedition.

Akhil Gogoi was brought to New Delhi last Wednesday. He was spearheading anti-CAA protests in upper Assam. He is also the advisor of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti.

Irrespective of religion and culture, people who have the nationalistic spirit and respect the culture of Bharat and its heritage are Hindus and RSS considers the 130 crore people of the country as Hindus.

"....The son of mother India, whether he may speak any language, from any region, follow any form of worship or not believing in worship of any is a Hindu...

In this regard, for Sangh all the 130 crore people of India are Hindu society," he said.

A 24-year-old man was arrested in Yavatmal city of Maharashtra on Wednesday for stalking and harassing a girl.​ Sumit Suresh Khandwe, the accused, was allegedly harassing the girl, who had come here for college education, for the past three months, police said.

On December 24, he stopped her on the road and asked her to sit in his car.

Some passers-by came to the girl's help and beat up Khandwe. A video of the incident went viral on social media. He was then handed over to Awadhutwadi police station, where a case under IPC section 354-D (stalking) and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act was registered.

Jamia Millia Islamia students protesting against the amended Citizenship Act celebrated Christmas even as their agitation entered its 13th day on Wednesday. 

A student dressed up as Santa Claus was carrying a poster which read, 'Merry Christmas everyone apart from Delhi Police', expressing the students' anger towards the force for its alleged brutality on them on December 15 when the police personnel had entered the campus and lathi-charged" them after violent protests outside.
