    Iron piece from bridge in east Delhi falls on boy scavenging underneath, kills him

    A 15-year-old boy who was allegedly scavenging under a bridge died after a heavy iron piece fell on his head from above on Sunday, police said. The incident took place in the morning near Thokar No 18 Pushta Road, they said, adding they got to know about the incident at 10.

    Strong 6.0-magnitude earthquake shakes southern Mexico

    A strong 6.0-magnitude earthquake shook southern Mexico Sunday morning, sending nervous residents of the capital into the street. The United States Geological Survey said the earthquake's epicentre was 2½ miles (4 kilometers) northwest of Corral Falso in the southern state of Guerrero.

    6 killed, 17 injured in Pakistan’s Balochistan province as Afghan Border Forces open fire

    Ahead of Karnataka polls, Kharge calls meeting of state Congress leaders in Delhi tomorrow

    As assembly elections in Karnataka are due in the next few months, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has called a meeting of the party's senior leaders from the state on Monday in New Delhi, to discuss the preparations and the strategy for the polls.

    According to a party functionary, 14 leaders from the state, including Karnataka Congress President D K Shivakumar, and state Legislature Party leader Siddaramaiah, among others will be attending the meeting at the AICC office in the national capital.

    Women, children main targets of foreign-funded religious conversions, PIL petitioner tells SC

    Women and children are the main targets of “foreign-funded” religious conversion in the country and the Centre and state governments have failed to take appropriate steps to check it, the Supreme Court has been told.

    In a written submission filed before a bench of Justices M R Shah and C T Ravikumar which is hearing a plea against religious conversions, PIL petitioner Ashwini Upadhyay referred to the legal vacuum on the issue and said this has led to the deployment of “unethical predatory conversion strategies” to convert socially and economically backward citizens.

    PM Modi inaugurates All India Institute of Ayurveda in Goa

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the All India Institute of Ayurveda at Dhargal in Goa. Modi arrived in the coastal state this afternoon to address the valedictory session of the 9th world Ayurveda Congress and Arogya Expo. 

    Representatives from more than 50 countries took part in the Ayurveda Congress. The prime minister will later also inaugurate the first phase of the international airport at Mopa in the state.

    Paytm can't use IPO proceeds for buyback; co's strong liquidity to be used

    Communications Ltd, the operator of India's largest digital payments provider Paytm, cannot use proceeds of its mega initial public offering (IPO) for the proposed repurchase of its own shares, as rules prohibit such a move, sources said, adding the firm will use its strong liquidity for the purpose. Paytm has a liquidity of Rs 9,182 crore, as per its last earnings report.

    UP STF arrests man who duped policy holders

    A team of UP Special Task Force (STF) STF has arrested a wanted criminal who was a member of a gang that had duped people of crores of rupees after promising to facilitate a bonus against their insurance policy, or a claim from a closed policy. The accused, identified as Vimal Kumar Gupta of Ghaziabad, was arrested from Moti Nagar in Delhi. Additional SP STF, Vishal Vikram Singh said the accused and his other aides posed themselves as officials of the IRDA, RBI, LIC and GBIC to trap the victims.

    Maharashtra: Toddler flung out of cab, dies; mother claims she was molested by driver, co-passengers

    A ten-month-old girl died after she was flung from a cab on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway in Maharashtra's Palghar district while her mother was allegedly molested on Saturday morning. The woman too was pushed out of the vehicle and sustained serious injuries, said a police official.
