    Attempts of infitration increased since abrogation of Article 370: MHA

    The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a statement about the situation in Kashmir before and after the abrogation of Article 370. In the statement, the ministry states, "There has been an increase in the number of infiltration attempts from across the border. During the 88 day period from 5th August 2019 - 31st October 2019 there have been 84 such attempts as against 53 such attempts from 9th May 2019 - 4th August 2019."

    Meanwhile, regarding terrorist activities, it stated, "Incidents of terrorist violence declined after 5th August. From 5th August 2019-27th November 2019, there have been 88 such incidents as compared to 106 such incidents from 12 April 2019-4 Aug 2019."

    Silver futures slump Rs 169 to Rs 44,175 per kg

    Silver futures on Tuesday slumped by Rs 169 to Rs 44,175 per kg as participants cut down their bets taking weak cues from overseas markets. On the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver contracts for December delivery tumbled Rs 169, or 0.38 per cent, to Rs 44,175 per kg in a business turnover of 96 lots. 

    Similarly, the white metal for delivery in March next year was trading lower by Rs 130, or 0.29 per cent, to Rs 44,600 per kg in a business volume of 2,012 lots. In the international market, silver prices fell 0.04 per cent to USD 16.96 an ounce in New York. Traders said the fall in silver prices in futures trade was largely in line with a weak trend in precious metals in global markets.

    Earlier on Monday, The wholesale price of onions of the summer variety rose to Rs 11,000 per quintal on Monday during auction at the Kalwan Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) here in Maharashtra. 

    Monday was the first trading day of December and the wholesale price of the summer crop of onions was the highest this season in Nashik district, a major producer of the vegetable, APMC sources said.

    Free smartphones to youth from Republic Day: Punjab CM

    The Congress-led Punjab government will start distributing free smartphones to the youth in the state, one of the key poll promises of the ruling party, from January 26.
