Court likely to pass order in case related to Fadnavis's `non-disclosure' in poll affidavit next week
Final arguments in a case related to Maharashtra deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis's alleged non-disclosure of criminal cases against him in an election affidavit ended before a magistrate's court here on Tuesday. The Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Sangram Jadhav is likely to pass the order on September 5, a lawyer said.

Haryana's unemployment rate 8.8%, state assembly told
Unemployment rate in the state was recorded to be 8.8 per cent till March quarter and the government has been taking steps to provide employment to the youth, state assembly was told Tuesday. Nearly 1.69 lakh youths on average were enrolled every year across several employment exchanges in the state during 2015-2022, the government told the state assembly through a written reply.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to interfere with the Punjab and Haryana High Court order staying the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) elections. The development came days after UWW, the world governing body for wrestling, suspended the WFI for not conducting its elections on time. As a result of the global wrestling body's decision, the country's grapplers will not be able to compete at the upcoming World Championships under the Indian flag. A bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Pankaj Mithal asked the petitioner, Andhra Pradesh Amateur Wrestling Association, to approach the high court with its grievances.

Mumbai: Tribunal awards Rs 1.36 cr compensation to kin of man killed in road accident
The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) here has awarded a compensation of more than Rs 1.36 crore to the family of a motorcycle rider killed in a road accident in neighbouring Thane district of Maharashtra in 2018.
In the order passed on August 21, the MACT negated the defence of the offending vehicle's insurance company that the accident occurred due to sole negligence of the deceased rider.
The incident took place in December 2018 on Mumbai-Agra highway at Shahapur in Thane. -

Jharkhand: Three killed, nine seriously injured as car ploughs into group returning from cultural event
At least three people were killed and nine others seriously injured after a car ploughed into a group of people returning home from a cultural programme in Jharkhand's Palamu district, police said on Tuesday. The incident took place in Baraon village in Chainpur police station area, around 175 km from state capital Ranchi, on Monday midnight, a police officer said.
They were returning to their homes after attending a cultural programme organised in the village on the occasion of the last Monday of the holy month of Shravan, he said.

Four people - including two young boys, ages 1 and 3 - were found fatally stabbed inside a New York City apartment Monday, police said.

A powerful earthquake and two strong aftershocks rocked Indonesia's resort island of Bali and other parts of the country early Tuesday, causing panic but no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
The US Geological Survey said the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 7.1 and was centred in the Bali Sea 181 kilometers northeast of Gili Air, a tiny island near the coast of Lombok Island, next to Bali. It occurred at a depth of 513.5 kilometers. -
