John Chambers, a top American corporate leader and former Cisco CEO, has announced a donation of USD1 million towards a target of sending one lakh oxygen units to India.

Chambers is the chairman of the US India Strategic and Partnership Forum (USISPF), a US-based India-centric business advocacy group. This is the highest individual donation pledged by any corporate leader so far towards COVID-19 relief efforts in India.

"I'm personally giving USD1M to our goal of shipping 100K oxygen units to India," Chambers said in a tweet. He also urged others to donate generously. 

The Manipur government on Thursday declared the whole of the Greater Imphal area as a containment zone with immediate effect for seven days in view of the rise in COVID-19 cases.

Remdesivir, the drug used to treat COVID 19 patients is repeatedly black marketed in several states. Two were held in Haryana's Panipat for black marketing the anti-viral drug. One of them was a manager at a leading diagnostic laboratory while the other accused runs a medical store in a hospital.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday asked district officials to make plans for new oxygen plants and stocking of medicines in view of the threat of a third COVID-19 wave. The chief minister spoke to district collectors, divisional commissioners, and municipal commissioners virtually to take a stock of the pandemic situation, said an official release.
