New Delhi: The east, north and south municipal corporations of Delhi (MCDs) ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Friday abolished trade licences and identified over 350 roads as commercial.

"We have decided to abolish the mandatory requirement of getting trade licences every two years. The MCDs will pass a proposal to amend the relevant act and send it to the Delhi government," state BJP president Vijay Goel said.

"Till the time the proposal is cleared, no MCD inspector will visit traders' establishments," he added.

Under the revised system, traders will now have to fill a 'trader information form' once every five years.

Further, the MCD has identified 351 roads where commercial activities are going on and has sent a proposal to the Delhi government to declare such roads commercial.

"This will provide respite to lakhs of traders who have establishments along these roads. When we come to power in Delhi, we will immediately implement this proposal," said Goel.

The BJP promised to chuck the practice of filing value added tax (VAT) every two months if it wins.

"The process will be made simpler for traders to file VAT," said Goel.
